Donald Trump<\/a> revealed how he truly feels about the British Royal Family in an off-camera comment, reports suggest. The US President reportedly made the eye-opening remark once the media had left the room after a glittering state dinner on Wednesday, during the four-day royal state visit to the US.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

King Charles<\/a> and Queen Camilla were hosted by the US President and First Lady Melania at the White House on April 29 to honour the US and UK’s “friendship”, which Mr Trump described as “unlike any other on Earth”. At the event, the King presented a memorable gift to Mr Trump, the bell from the Royal Navy<\/a> submarine HMS Trump, which saw action in the Battle of the Pacific and signified the “shared history and shining future”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Afterwards, the monarch joked: “And should you ever need to get hold of us – well, just give us a ring!” Mr Trump in response was full of praise for the King, describing him as a “great man”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

For royal author Robert Hardman, the visit was a “resounding success”. He wrote in the Daily Mail<\/a> the moment “neatly combines kingly wit, a deftly judged political point, an eloquent reminder of shared heroism, British tradition and precision flattery”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It was when the official addresses were over and the media appeared to have left the room that the US President revealed his level of admiration for the King, and perhaps a touch of longing for something greater than the White House.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He was quoted as saying: “It’s great to be President, but it’s nicer to be King.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It came after a scroll-stopping X post shared by the White House the day before, April 28. Alongside a picture of the two heads of state, the caption read: “TWO KINGS” accompanied by a crown emoji.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Donald Trump<\/a> has made his stance on the Royal Family relatively clear over the years, and especially during this most recent state visit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On the second day of the trip, Mr Trump revealed that his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was also a strong royalist, having been born and raised on the Hebridean island of Lewis before emigrating to New York in 1930.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He said she “loved the Royal Family and she loved the Queen”, adding: “And any time the Queen was involved in a ceremony or anything, my mother would be glued to the television and she would say ‘look Donald, look how beautiful that is’. She really did love the family.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
