Meryl Streep<\/strong> <\/a>and Anna Wintour<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s connection goes beyond The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>.<\/p>\n

During her appearance on the Thursday, April 30, episode of Jenna Bush Hager<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cOpen Book\u201d podcast, Streep, 76, reacted to the news that she and the former Vogue<\/em> editor-in-chief have a surprising family relation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt came out that\u2026 y\u2019all are, like, fifth cousins or something,\u201d Bush Hager, 44, told the Only Murders in the Building<\/em> star. \u201cSixth cousins.\u201d<\/p>\n

Explaining their connection, Streep responded, \u201cBucks County, Pennsylvania. We are old English, the Wilkinsons, my mother\u2019s side. It\u2019s pretty funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today<\/em><\/a> was first to report on the news of Streep and Wintour\u2019s family connection earlier this month, citing Ancestry.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe genealogy company has confirmed that Streep and Wintour share fifth great-grandparents, Thomas Smith<\/strong> and Elizabeth Kinsey<\/strong>, making them sixth cousins,\u201d the report read.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnna Wintour and Anne Hathaway leaned into the Devil Wears Prada nostalgia \u2014 and hype for the upcoming sequel \u2014 while presenting at the 98th annual Academy Awards. Wintour, 76, and Hathaway, 43, teamed up to present the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling during the Sunday, March 15, awards ceremony. \u201cHair and makeup choices [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Streep\u2019s Devil Wears Prada<\/em> costars Anne Hathaway<\/strong>, Stanley Tucci<\/strong> and Emily Blunt<\/strong> were shocked by the revelation, with Blunt, 43, telling Streep in disbelief, \u201cNo, you\u2019re not. That\u2019s fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the uninitiated, the 2006 comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada<\/em> was based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger<\/strong>, who wrote the book based on her experience<\/a> working as Wintour\u2019s personal assistant at Vogue<\/em>. Streep played the notoriously harsh Runway magazine editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly. She\u2019ll reprise her role in the upcoming Devil Wears Prada<\/em> sequel.<\/a><\/p>\n

Though it was widely believed at the time of the film\u2019s release that the character of Miranda was meant to be a direct impersonation of Wintour<\/a>, 76, Streep explained on the podcast that she \u201cdidn\u2019t want Miranda to be modeled on Anna.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know her at all,\u201d she continued. \u201cThe only bosses I\u2019d had were men, so I copied their leadership style, not hers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streep added that as she \u201cgot to know\u201d Wintour, she realized the media executive is \u201cpretty fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what she has done, she\u2019s exactly my age, at 76, she\u2019s running all of Conde Nast content around the world,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s the New Yorker<\/em>, that\u2019s the Traveler<\/em>, that\u2019s GQ<\/em>, I think, and everything else. Yeah, amazing. And all of the Vogues<\/em> all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streep joked that, had she known Wintour was related to her, she might have \u201ccopied her\u201d in the film after all.<\/p>\n

Streep also dished on how she managed to get Wintour to pose alongside her on the cover of Vogue<\/em> for the first time.<\/p>\n
