On Wednesday, Mr Richie spoke during an event in New York<\/a> among a host of celebrity supporters of the King\u2019s Trust who joined its founder and the Queen to celebrate the charity\u2019s work and showcase the UK\u2019s cultural impact. He described the monarch as a wise friend \u201cgiving advice as to what we should be doing\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Richie, the first global ambassador and chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for the King\u2019s Trust, said about Charles\u2019 address on Tuesday on Capitol Hill: \u201cI thought it was brilliant and how he threaded the needle \u2013 so brilliant, but brought us back into humanity as only he can do<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cA friend, giving advice as to what we should be doing, a wise friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charles has been praised for his speech, which outlined the issues, values and priorities important to the UK and many of its allies, from support for Ukraine<\/a> to the threat to the environment and the importance of the rule of law.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The New York Times said: \u201cBeneath King Charles\u2019s jokes and decorum, some subtle rebuttals to Trump, King Charles III gently pushed back against President Trump\u2019s attacks on Britain and Nato, and he spoke of the importance of checks and balances.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During the reception at Christie\u2019s auction house, Charles began by making the audience laugh when he told them: \u201cI hesitate to make another speech because I may have had enough\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The monarch joked \u201cas we look to the future, I won\u2019t see the long-distance future\u201d and he urged those in the room to \u201cchampion the next generation\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
