The French dance producer Madeon has been working for a long time without getting much attention from Stereogum, and that seems to be working out just fine for him. He’s playing huge festival sets and doing well for himself. He doesn’t need us. But now, Madeon has a new album coming out, and he’s got Slayyyter on his lead single, so he’s got our attention anyway.<\/p>\n
Last month, the St. Louis dance-pop screecher Slayyyter released her big breakout Wor$t Girl In America<\/a><\/em>, and it might be the best album of the year so far. She followed it with the one-off track “Broke Bitch Free$tyle<\/a>,” and now she’s singing alongside Madeon on his new track “Fire Away.” Madeon seems to be moving toward a fusion of blog-house and synthpop on his upcoming album Victory<\/em>, which also features the recent singles “Hi!<\/a>” and “Car Crash Baby<\/a>.” That’s right<\/em> in Slayyyter’s comfort zone.<\/p>\n “Fire Away,” which Madeon debuted at Coachella, is a blown-out, ultra-processed take on sentimental pop music, and it’s a lot more bittersweet and less trash-glam than Slayyyter’s recent solo music. I like it! It’s skeezy and vulnerable at the same time. In a press release, Slayyyter claims that she’s a big Madeon fan and says that she’s “$o grateful” to work with him. Here’s what Madeon says:<\/p>\n “Fire Away” is perhaps the most anthemic record on the album. It\u2019s a song about love as warfare, words like weapons of the brokenhearted.
