INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) \u2014 Indianapolis\u2019 early May arts calendar brings a wide-ranging mix of theater, music, and performance, from classic musicals and modern drama to symphony collaborations and touring rock acts.<\/p>\n
At the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre, \u201cFiddler on the Roof<\/a>\u201d opens May 1 and runs through May 10. The volunteer-driven production follows milkman Tevye as he grapples with tradition and change in the village of Anatevka, continuing the theater\u2019s long-standing community performance model.<\/p>\n Catalyst Repertory Theatre will present \u201cAmadeus<\/a>\u201d from May 1-17, with Ian McCabe in the title role. Directed by artistic director Casey Ross, the production brings Peter Shaffer\u2019s exploration of genius, jealousy, and legacy to the stage with Catalyst\u2019s signature interpretive approach.<\/p>\n Music also takes center stage with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra<\/a>, which will welcome singer-songwriters Ben Rector and Jon McLaughlin for performances May 8-9. Rector, a charting artist with multiple gold and platinum records, joins McLaughlin, an Indiana native, in a crossover program blending pop songwriting with orchestral arrangements.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the city, Electric Light Orchestra performs May 2 at The Payne and Mencias Palladium<\/a>, followed by Melissa Etheridge on May 3 at the same venue. At the Indiana Repertory Theatre, \u201cCome From Away<\/a>\u201d continues its run through May 10, extending its acclaimed staging of the post-Sept. 11 airline story.<\/p>\n Rounding out the arts coverage, Tom Alvarez\u2019s \u201cOn the Aisle\u201d podcast continues its local theater spotlight with a May 1 episode featuring Indianapolis Ballet principal dancer Yoshika Kamasuka.<\/p>\n
