\n\tThe pop phenomenon stopped by NBC\u2019s The Tonight Show<\/em> on Thursday night, May 30, where she spilled the beans on her forthcoming album, tour and Saturday Night Live<\/em> gig.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI knew that I wanted this record to be about romantic love in more of a positive sense,\u201d she says of\u00a0You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love<\/a>, due out June 12 via Geffen Records. That\u2019s considering her last two were \u201cheartbroken and angsty,\u201d in her own words. Expected love songs, \u201cinjected with a little bit of sadness and longing. And melancholy, because all my favorite love songs have that.\u201d Those faves, she tells Jimmy Kimmel, include \u201cLove Song\u201d by the Cure, and \u201cVideo Games\u201d by Lana Del Rey.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMultiple songs\u201d from her forthcoming album, she also reveals, are inspired by the complex relationship of lawyer Miranda Hobbes and former bartender Steve Brady, two central characters from Sex And The City<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s my favorite show,\u201d she enthuses. \u201cI think I watched every single episode maybe three times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s worth pointing out that Sex and the City<\/em> concluded after six seasons on Feb. 22, 2004, a year to the month after Rodrigo was born.<\/p>\n

\n\tRodrigo\u2019s new album is led by \u201cDrop Dead,\u201d which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her fourth title to debut in the top spot. \u201cThe song is basically about an awesome first date,\u201d she explains. \u201cIt\u2019s the first step in the journey of You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl<\/em>. The journey definitely like ebbs and flows. It goes in lots of different places from here, but this is the first chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRodrigo will sing \u201cDrop Dead\u201d and a brand new one, when she appears on Saturday Night Live<\/em> this weekend as both host and musical guest.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s always been a huge dream of mine,\u201d to pull double duty on SNL<\/em>, she insists. If she has nerves, she\u2019s not showing it. And she does have a lucky charm, a gift from Jack White, which he planted in her dressing room.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 23-year-old pop star will support her next release with the Unraveled Tour<\/a><\/em>, which currently stands at 65 arena date across North America, Europe and the U.K. this fall and winter beginning with a Sept. 25 show at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn. \u201cI\u2019ve been working so hard on it,\u201d she says during her latest late-night interview. \u201cI\u2019m so stoked to play these songs live.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love<\/em>, she resisted the temptation of going with another four letter word after Sour<\/em> (from 2021) and Guts<\/em> (2023), both of which logged time at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. \u201cI always knew if wasn\u2019t going to be four letters.\u201d She wanted to \u201cbreak out,\u201d and \u201cdidn\u2019t want to be stuck in it,\u201d she tells Fallon.<\/p>\n
