The next half-dozen New Music Fridays should be filled with interesting and exciting summer releases, both in terms of singles and albums.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Singles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. The Beaches, Should\u2019ve Known Better (AWAL)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s biggest all-female band returns after winning a couple of JUNOs (including Group of the Year) with a new single taken from an upcoming deluxe edition of their No Hard Feelings album. Bleachers\u2019 fifth album, Everyone for Ten Minutes, will arrive on May 22. Gavin Rossdale and crew decided that this was a good time to \u201creinterpret\u201d one of the singles from that album in a more intimate way. It\u2019s much, much less fuzzy. Death Cab for Cutie, <em>Punching the Flowers<\/em> (Anti-)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In another month, Death Cab for Cutie will release, I Built You a Tower, their eleventh album, and one that they banged out in about three week. Leader Ben Gibbard was going through a rough time, too, processing his recent divorce. Editors, <em>Call It In<\/em> (PIAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for something reflective and filled with existential dread, this weekend, this song is a good place to start. The Birmingham band spent last summer in the middle of Gloucestershire, playing in the same room together throughout the songwriting process. Korn, <em>Reward the Scars<\/em> (Loma Vista)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was a surprise release. After all, we hadn\u2019t heard anything new from Korn in about four years. This track is a companion to the <em>Lord of Hatred<\/em> extension of the video game<em> Diablo IV<\/em>. Singer Jonathan Davis is a huge Diablo fan, so when he was asked to come up with something appropriately dark, he didn\u2019t have a problem. The Revivalists, <em>Heart Stop<\/em> (Concord)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re done with the heaviness of the Foos, Violet Grohl, and Korn, bring it down with something a little melodic and mellow. TALK, Time Machine (RCA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll remember TALK (Nicholas Durocher from Stittsville, Ontario) from his glorious 2021 hit, Run Away to Mars. Tori Amos, <em>In Times of Dragons<\/em> (Fontana\/Universal)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve talked about this concept album for weeks as various advance singles were released. To review: Her 18th album is a concept album about the death of democracy at the bands of the<br \/>\u201cDictator believing Lizard Demons\u2019 in their usurpation of America.\u201d Whoever could she be talking about?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tori Amos &quot;Stronger Together&quot; - (In Times Of Dragons)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O8LPsY5HBp4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. The Black Keys, Peaches! (Easy Eye Sound\/Warner<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>The Black Keys keep plugging away. Their 14th album features material that\u2019s instantly familiar even though everything on the record is a cover. They mine material from Ike Turner, Arthur Cruduo, Wilko Johnson, R.L. Burnside, and other bluesy types. The record has a \u201cno-budget, mid-fi\u201d sound reminiscent of when Dan and Patrick first started out. This time, it\u2019s a concept record that \u201creflects on morality, the warnings of A.I., and the slippery slope of optimization without empathy, told across 14 songs.\u201d A special edition of the album comes with a 24-page comic book.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Claypool Lennon Delirium - The Golden Egg of Empathy ft. Palestine and Israel) and aren\u2019t afraid to express it anytime, anywhere, even if it gets them in trouble with TV networks, festivals, and even entire countries.
