The University of Colorado-Denver student is applying what she\u2019s already learned through her recording arts and songwriting programs by sharing her own music, including latest single \u201cWeapons,\u201d released independently on April 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s given me the ability to write, record, produce, mix and master my music all on my own to bring my ideas to life,\u201d Lipton, 21, shares.<\/p>\n<p>Her fourth single in the past year is a slow-build of alt-indie folk and bedroom pop that showcases Lipton\u2019s burgeoning talents.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Slow Water\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/2vQNvMtGUwZMOL3TgvqgkL?si=wSwuwalnSne9WIpSCBNoFw&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Dirty Snowman Society<br \/><\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/2vQNvMtGUwZMOL3TgvqgkL?si=wSwuwalnSne9WIpSCBNoFw\">\u201cSlow Water\u201d<br \/><\/a>Grungey Colorado group <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dirtysnowmansociety.com\/\">Dirty Snowman Society<\/a> pulled inspiration from an unlikely place while writing new song, \u201cSlow Water,\u201d released independently on April 17. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Slow Water\u2019 is a heavy track about a heavy subject, a murder that occurred many years ago in Louisville,\u201d the band explains. \u201cTo us, it\u2019s a meaningful artistic expression of a tough topic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the subject matter is ominous, the murder ballad is more hard rock and groove than one might initially expect, but that\u2019s what the five-piece does best.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Waist of Money\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/2wJqiitIszgjztuOGdwE29?si=b8XR8BMiRPGyCll7mUBdEw&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>honeybunches Of DEATH<br \/><\/strong><em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/2wJqiitIszgjztuOGdwE29?si=b8XR8BMiRPGyCll7mUBdEw\">Waist of Money<br \/><\/a><\/em>Weirdos <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/honeybunchesofdeath_official\/\">honeybunches Of DEATH<\/a> claim Denver as home, but the eccentric groove-metal troupe may be from another planet, or at least a parallel universe where alien orgies are the norm.<\/p>\n<p>Learn about that, and more, on the band\u2019s sophomore album, <em>Waist of Money<\/em>, released independently on April 17. Other than the banger <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7gGgDzR9AiZOpLuXohriMV?si=b58277a7d91844e1\">\u201cAlien Orgy,\u201d<\/a> enjoy soft-rock (sarcasm) jams <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/5iVoLM4lvpLQ4z7pH7H2jG?si=aad3ab1549f2407e\">\u201cDon\u2019t Do the Necrophilia,\u201d<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/2VVHIJlPs9ZqJi0FfPtJGk?si=0083ff1c2fcc4fd6\">\u201cDiarrhea Surprise\u201d<\/a> and the Lou Bega homage, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/4xn5FwWYy7OC9uJfkVJwb1?si=d9174162cc744e70\">\u201cDUI No. 5.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Waist of Money<\/em> was written to improve public health, therapeutically addressing divisive social issues such as necrophilia, binge-drunk-driving and men dressing up as cows hoping to be \u2018milked,\u2019\u201d the band proclaims.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Taxi the Rich\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/0FbJO8mvnjyepj6cEFaRsP?si=B0pehb8cRTG8MiW7c4LyGg&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jesus Christ Taxi Driver<br \/><\/strong><em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/0FbJO8mvnjyepj6cEFaRsP?si=P3GS1fi1RKSa-jXWWMTrRw\">Taxi the Rich<br \/><\/a><\/em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westword.com\/music\/jesus-christ-taxi-driver-is-calling-out-the-religious-alt-right-40855523\/\">Jesus Christ Taxi Driver<\/a> put out a twisted modern rock album, <em>Taxi the Rich<\/em> (April 24 via Kanas independent label <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/midtopia.com\/\">Midtopia<\/a>), for these twisted modern times, taking on everything from the cultish alt-right to social-media induced religious fervor with such songs as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/6z3o9O2d1iXR2vzv02q4oC?si=20e72e258bd343ef\">\u201cHave It\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3G5UIJIk5dLmQBuad4MiHQ?si=c00db55fe0f5410b\">\u201cLana Del Rey\u201d<\/a> (it\u2019s not really an homage to the popstar). \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Taxi the Rich<\/em> is a worried perspective of our current time. The album\u2019s subject matter looks at the world from afar and from up close, even looks within and into the past,\u201d according to the Jesus Christ crew. \u201cWe wonder how we got here, we recite mantras to ease the fear, and sometimes we play our instruments loud to show our teeth.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Invocation of the Dreamer\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/55EEg67bOVQni8ivCHV3Sj?si=Rfo3fcntTuSZWkeyWowCUg&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Khemmis<br \/><\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/55EEg67bOVQni8ivCHV3Sj?si=Rfo3fcntTuSZWkeyWowCUg\">\u201cInvocation of the Dreamer\u201d \u00a0<br \/><\/a><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/khemmisdoom.com\/\">Khemmis<\/a> is mounting a comeback. Not that the Denver doom vets really went anywhere, but the epic foursome announced its first album in five years \u2014 a self-titled set to drop on June 12 \u2014 with the release of lead single \u201cInvocation of the Dreamer\u201d on April 9 via <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nuclearblast.com\/\">Nuclear Blast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fresh cut is trademark Khemmis, as the soaring dual guitars of Ben Hutcherson and Phil Pendergast lead listeners on a familiar high-fantasy foray, but delivered a little meaner and leaner this time around, giving it a reinvigorated edge and further building hype around the upcoming record. Plus, the hometown heroes are <em>Decibel<\/em> magazine\u2019s June coverboys.
