Hollywood icon Barbra Streisand<\/a> once joked she could have become royal thanks to her “unexpected” friendship with King Charles<\/a>. The pair have spoken about their unlikely friendship over the years, with the singer even referencing him in her memoir, My Name Is Barbra.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The performer, now 84, and the monarch, now 77, are said to have first met nearly 50 years ago in 1974, when King Charles visited Los Angeles. He was apparently so adamant about meeting Barbra that he stopped by Warner Bros. Studios for a brief visit, where the star was recording music for her upcoming film, Funny Lady.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “The prince was utterly charming when he came to the studio, but frankly, it’s hard to have a real conversation when you’re surrounded by fifty photographers snapping pictures,” Streisand recalled in her memoir.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “I was drinking tea and offered him a sip\u2026 and the future king of England actually drank from my cup, which was apparently unprecedented. When the British press reported on this, they turned it into the equivalent of an international incident.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The King<\/a> has also spoken about the friendship. In July 2021, Charles appeared on a radio program titled ‘Music and Memories With HRH The Prince Of Wales’ as part of the UK\u2019s national Thank You Day to honour the NHS during the pandemic.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In the interview, he reminisced about the first time he met the singer, sharing: “I have always been a great admirer of the incredibly versatile American actress and singer Barbra Streisand.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Barbra shared how their paths crossed throughout the decades while appearing on ITV’s Lorraine<\/a>, saying that and they would often exchange birthday cards, including one decorated with his watercolour paintings, and that she visited Highgrove.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
