Although the date holds a specific historical meaning in Mexico and is not the country\u2019s Independence Day celebration, in the United States it has become an important celebration of Mexican culture, identity and traditions, especially in cities with growing Hispanic communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s festival will feature Mexican folkloric dance performances, mariachi music, live bands, singers, traditional crafts, children\u2019s games, pi\u00f1atas and inflatable attractions for children. Folkloric performances and cultural activities designed for the entire family will also be part of the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration also reflects the growth of the Mexican and Latino community in Peekskill over recent decades. Businesses such as Ruben\u2019s Mexican Cafe, established more than 16 years ago on North Division Street, have helped transform downtown into a gathering place for Hispanic residents and visitors drawn to the city\u2019s cultural and culinary offerings.
