Singer-songwriter Chase Brown chatted about his new song \u201cCloser to U\u201d.<\/p>\n
On the idea for his new song, Brown said, \u201cIt\u2019s a crazy story. I actually woke up from a dream with the chorus\u2019 melody stuck in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI forgot about it at first, but after two weeks later, it came back to me again. I found the instrumental perfect for it, and ended up writing the song in about an hour, so that\u2019s how \u2018Closer to U\u2019 came about,\u201d he elaborated.<\/p>\n
On his music and songwriting inspirations, he shared, \u201cWhat inspires me is pretty much everything\u2026 Jesus, people, relationships, emotions, memories and even just playing the guitar.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI try to write in a way where it feels like I\u2019m showing the story instead of just telling it\u2026 I think that makes it more immersive and relatable,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
On being an artist in the digital age, Brown said, \u201cIt is weird because everything moves so fast. Songs can blow up and disappear just as quickly, but the emotions behind the songs don\u2019t work like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI try to focus on making realistic, relatable music instead of chasing trends, because new trends usually come from people just doing their own thing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
On his future plans, he shared, \u201cRight now, I\u2019m focused on growing my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus, and reading my Bible more. In music, I\u2019m focused on training my voice, playing more instruments, and being more consistent with my music.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve also been putting a lot into a new song called \u2018Feels like D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu\u2019 with my twin brother. It\u2019s a song about being reminded of what you had with someone through d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu, and I\u2019m really excited about that,\u201d he elaborated.<\/p>\n Brown listed Somber, Royel Otis, and Dominic Fike as his dream collaboration choices in music. \u201cThey all make amazing music,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI am into anybody that has a cool style.\u201d<\/p>\n His biggest musical influences include Justin Bieber, John Mayer, Morgan Wallen and Thomas Rhett. \u201cI\u2019ve always loved Justin Bieber\u2019s sound and style and I get inspired by his music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI love John Mayer for his guitar and songwriting, as well as country artists like Morgan Wallen and Thomas Rhett,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n For young and emerging singer-songwriters, Brown said, \u201cMy advice for young emerging musicians is don\u2019t write about things you haven\u2019t actually felt, be authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople can tell when it\u2019s not real,\u201d he said. \u201cThe parts that hit are usually the small, specific moments that people recognize in their own life.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to put out \u2018bad\u2019 songs.
