Legendary guitarist Bobby Murray has died.<\/p>\n

He was 72.<\/p>\n

The Detroit Blues Society shared the news of his death on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Blues community is saddened to hear of the loss of one of Detroit\u2019s best loved musicians Bobby Murray,\u201d it shared in a statement on Facebook.<\/b> <\/a>on April 30. \u201cHe passed away this morning. Bobby was best known as the long-time guitarist for Etta James. Bobby was a Detroit Blues Society Lifetime Achievement Award winner and great friend to the DBS.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray played in the backing band for iconic singer Etta James for 23 years.<\/p>\n

Murray played on James\u2019 \u201cLet\u2019s Roll\u201d and \u201cBlues to the Bone,\u201d which won Grammy Awards. He also played on B.B. King\u2019s Grammy Award-winning album \u201cBlues Summit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray also released five albums.<\/p>\n

The first of those albums, \u201cThe Blues is Now,\u201d came in 1996, and the last, \u201cLove Letters From Detroit,\u201d was released in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust arrived in Australia and received the sad news of the passing of Bobby Murray,\u201d Tower of Power bandleader Emilio Castillo shared on Facebook. \u201cBobby was a \u2018one of a kind\u2019 type of guy. Very soulful, excellent blues artist, played and was close friends with Roccok. He was from my hometown of Detroit, MI and his work with Etta James for years on the road was phenomenal!!! RIP Bobby!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe and I had the pleasure of working together many times,\u201d he added. \u201cTimes I\u2019ll aways cherish. There isn\u2019t enough that can be said about Bobby, or how deeply he was respected and loved by everyone. Love you Bobby! You will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n
