Buckingham Palace has announced that Princess Eugenie is
\nexpecting her third child and while it\u2019s led to the usual run of
\nroyal baby excitement, there\u2019s a subtle sign in the statement that
\nhides something far more meaningful.<\/p>\n
The Royal Family shared on social media, and via an official
\nnote, that the princess and her husband are looking forward to
\nwelcoming a new member to their family this summer. But it was the
\nwords they used that really packed a punch.<\/p>\n
The statement started \u201dHer Royal Highness Princess Eugenie\u201d, a
\nreally important move given the speculation that has surrounded the
\nprincess and her sister, Beatrice, in recent months.<\/p>\n
Ever since their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was
\nstripped of his royal titles in October 2025, there has been on
\ngoing debate about whether his two daughters would retain their
\nroyal status. This statement from the Palace is a very clear
\nindication that there is no intention to remove the royal styles of
\neither Eugenie or her sister.<\/p>\n
Both Beatrice and Eugenie are HRH and Princess because of the
\n1917 Letters Patent, issued by King George V. That said that all
\nthe grandchildren of a Monarch in the male line, that is the
\nchildren of the sons of a Monarch, are entitled to be HRH and

\nwife, Sarah Ferguson, have been known by their royal titles since

\nPrince of his brother, Andrew, by issuing fresh Letters Patent and
\nto take away his other titles by asking the Lord Chancellor to
\nremove them from the Roll of Peerage, put his daughters in the

Both have kept a low royal profile since their father lost his
\ntitle and agreed to give up the lease on Royal Lodge, the thirty
\nroom mansion on the Windsor estate that he lived in until early
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
Debate about their titles intensified when both their parents
\nwere mentioned in the Epstein files which also included
\nconfirmation that the princesses had travelled with Sarah Ferguson,
\nwhen adults, to stay with Jeffrey Epstein following his release
\nfrom prison after being convicted of sex offences.<\/p>\n
Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie attended the royal Christmas
\ncelebrations at Sandringham last year and neither has been seen
\nmuch since their father was arrested, in February, on suspicion of
\nmisconduct in public office. He was released without charge, under
\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
Eugenie was seen recently in London, leaving a restaurant with
\nher husband. A baby bump was clearly visible beneath her on trend
\njacket and the Buckingham Palace statement has confirmed the happy
\nnews.<\/p>\n
However, the subtext is just as interesting. The fact that
\nBuckingham Palace issued a statement at all is telling in itself.
\nAs The King continues to \u201dslim down\u201d the Royal Family, the
\nexpectation that personal news, such as the arrival of a new baby,
\nwill be accompanied by official words is lower.<\/p>\n
And the choice is words is particularly resonant. Starting with
\nEugenie\u2019s full title is another way of highlighting that she
\nretains it, will continue to retain it and does so with the full
\nbacking of The King.<\/p>\n
Indeed, the statement ends with the phrase \u201dHis Majesty The King
\nhas been informed and is delighted with the news\u201d.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just the congratulations of a happy uncle but also the
\nbacking of the Monarch himself for the royal status of his
\nniece.<\/p>\n
Princess Eugenie\u2019s new baby is due in the summer and will be
\nfifteenth in line to the throne. The princess and her husband
\nalready have two sons \u2013 August is 5 and Ernest is 2.<\/p>\n
