The musical artist formerly known as Georgia Meek, who now simply goes by MEEK, is one of the many English performers who might have been introduced to American music lovers through Saturday Night Live UK<\/em>. The British version of the iconic show has been pretty good, but the musical guests have been elite<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

MEEK is just the latest in the run of them, while others include Wet Leg and Wolf Alice<\/a>. All the musical acts have been great. MEEK might have been the best.<\/p>\n

The singer-songwriter delivered two smashing songs, both relatively new. The first was “Fabulous,” which was released in January. The next was “Beautiful Freeks,” which has yet to officially be released. The SNL UK gig is coming after a run of success live from the performer.<\/p>\n

MEEK is pure perfection on Saturday Night Live UK<\/em><\/h2>\n

“Fabulous”<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The song shows off the excellent trick<\/a> that MEEK is able to pull throughout most of her music. The music is uptempo and thrilling, while the lyrics are a juxtaposition of something going quite wrong personally, with an ironic twist immediately thereafter.<\/p>\n

For instance, the opening line is, “I just got my heart broken, but I look f*****’ fabulous.” The motif runs the entire track, and thank goodness for it. But this is no straightforward tune. Cadences are played with, and MEEK’s vocals go from Freddie Mercury perfection to Celine Dion pristineness.<\/p>\n

It’s fun, deeper than the backing instrumentation implies, and dressed all in red, MEEK proves she belongs among the best-respected of singers. <\/p>\n

“Beautiful Freeks”<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

Somehow, the track is even better<\/a> than the first. Slower and more soulful, the beginning belies the beauty about to follow. Powerful and meaningful, just be forewarned. The “na na na” part will get stuck in your head for days, and you will be happy for it.<\/p>\n

The track shows off the singer’s tendency to sound almost posh at times, but it’s clearly for effect and well done. One cannot see the audience while the performance is happening, but how anyone could sit through the track is unknown. It begs for one to get up and shake their booty.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What is next for MEEK isn’t known, other than more live performances. She signed with BMG earlier this year and has yet to produce a full studio album in her career. Eventually, that appears likely to happen, and for fans (both short-term or long-term), the record cannot come soon enough.<\/p>\n
