The 41-year-old Good American cofounder recently revealed she rubs beef tallow for skin<\/a> care around her eyes at night \u2014 a practice she swears helps keep nighttime wrinkles at bay. Her endorsement adds fuel to a viral trend that\u2019s been simmering on TikTok and Instagram for several years, even as dermatologists everywhere urge caution.<\/p>\n

After running through tips like getting facials, washing your face daily and never sleeping in makeup, Kardashian dropped the suggestion no one saw coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in hydration for your skin \u2014 moisturizers at night,\u201d she said. \u201cI love beef tallow that I put specifically around my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

She elaborated on the logic behind the practice: \u201cSomething that makes your eyes \u2014 it could be an oil, Vitamin E oil \u2014 anything that makes your eyes really lubricated, so when you sleep you don\u2019t get wrinkles around your eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Dermatologists Say About Beef Tallow for Skin<\/h2>\n

While celebrity endorsements have driven the trend, dermatologists are far less enthusiastic.<\/p>\n

Many experts understand the appeal \u2014 beef tallow is natural, simple and has been used for generations \u2014 but they caution that the lack of research is a meaningful concern. The ingredient does contain fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins, but those properties don\u2019t necessarily make it superior to existing skincare formulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gets promoted a lot on social media because it\u2019s natural,\u201d dermatology resident Angela Wei<\/strong>, MD, told the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>. \u201cPeople seem to like it because it\u2019s something that\u2019s been around for a long time and marketed as \u2018chemical-free.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Wei warned that beef tallow could lead to clogged pores, irritation, allergic reactions and sunburn. She also pushed back on the idea that it offers any unique benefits.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no evidence that shows beef tallow has any additional benefits for your skin beyond being a natural moisturizer,\u201d Wei added. \u201cThere are other moisturizers out there with more consistent formulations that are better and safer for use on the skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other Celebrities That Use Beef Tallow for Skin<\/h2>\n

Kardashian is far from alone. The surge in beef tallow\u2019s popularity has been driven largely by influencers and celebrities who\u2019ve publicly endorsed slathering rendered beef fat on their faces.<\/p>\n

Among the celebrities that use beef tallow are wellness influencers, pop musicians and viral TikTok creators \u2014 each with their own reasons for swearing by it.<\/p>\n

Hannah Bronfman<\/h3>\n

The health and wellness influencer has been using beef tallow since at least 2021 and publicly endorsed it in a March 2023 Instagram post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuys, I literally slather this all over my face every single night,\u201d she said, calling it a \u201cgame-changer\u201d for her skin. Bronfman has touted beef tallow as having the same molecular biology as the oils in human skin, and described it as rich in lipids and fat-soluble vitamins, including Vitamins A, D, E, K and B12.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is literally the last step in my skincare routine and it actually leaves a nice slip so if you wanted to have a face massage moment, here is the time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Jack Gilinsky<\/h3>\n

The pop singer, one-half of the duo Jack & Jack, endorsed beef tallow during a February 2024 appearance on the \u201cZach Sang Show\u201d<\/a>. \u201cBeef tallow is just beef fat,\u201d he said. \u201cI rub it all over my face.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed to the simplicity of the ingredient as a selling point. \u201cGo look at your moisturizer. It probably has like 50 ingredients and you might know what two of them are. Beef tallow is just beef tallow \u2014 it\u2019s just beef fat.\u201d He also noted its lack of smell and said using it connects him to his ancestral roots.<\/p>\n
