For the past few months this year, blues musician Alvon Johnson has kept a packed schedule of Bay Area performances.<\/p>\n
Johnson has brought his music to various venues and events, including Maria Concetto Winery in Calistoga, Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, and Biscuits and Blues jazz club in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
Recently, Johnson was one of more than 20 performers to perform at the third annual Decked Out at the Quarters music festival at Mare Island.<\/p>\n
Whether he is performing in his hometown, another neighboring county, or internationally, one feeling has always stayed constant \u2014 he does not take his audiences for granted.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been to a lot of countries, but it\u2019s so satisfying to stand up in front of audiences in Vallejo, the place where I live and share my love of music,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo me, it\u2019s so gratifying to come home.\u201d<\/p>\n
This weekend, Johnson will treat audiences in Vallejo to two Mother\u2019s Day performances at The 4th Corner Speakeasy on Saturday night and Empress Theatre on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Johnson said audiences can expect a night full of good times and good music.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen people come out to see me \u2013 those who have seen me before \u2013 they have a pretty good idea what to expect,\u201d said Johnson. \u201cI make sure that I give them what they want.\u201d<\/p>\n
Johnson previously performed at The 4th Corner Speakeasy in February.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a full house. I looked around and saw people that I hadn\u2019t seen in a long time. I never take it for granted,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI am always humbled by the fact that people come out and see me.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Saturday\u2019s performance, The 4th Corner Speakeasy will offer free admission to mothers in celebration of Mother\u2019s Day. The performance is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. at 431 Georgia St.<\/p>\n
As always, there is no prepared setlist for his show. Rather, Johnson reads the \u201cvibe\u201d of the audience and will play what he is feeling in the moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to be dedicating songs to all the mothers,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n
The songs will be kept as a surprise.<\/p>\n
For his Mother\u2019s Day Sunday afternoon performance, Johnson will appear at the Empress Theatre for a \u201cA Special Mother\u2019s Day Celebration\u201d performance from 2 to 4 p.m. at 330 Virginia St.<\/p>\n
Tickets will be available at the door.<\/p>\n
Johnson wanted to perform in the afternoon for those who prefer an earlier show as opposed to staying up late at night.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to create a performance where people can dress up and come out during the day, listen to music, and get home before it gets dark. It\u2019s gonna be special,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n
Although Johnson will perform blues and a variety of genres, the theme for Sunday\u2019s performance will be geared towards a \u201csmoother\u201d vibe and will feature sections from Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.<\/p>\n
