Inside, projections of the Stones\u2019 famous tongue-and-lips logo danced across the ceiling, and guests were served a selection of passed hors d&#8217;oeuvres and cocktails poured with the group\u2019s signature <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/us.crossfirehurricane.com\/\">Crossfire Hurricane rum<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The band joined superfan Conan O\u2019Brien for a freewheeling, roughly half-hour conversation, in which they discussed the recording process and how they stay vital more than 60 years into the Stones\u2019 career together. O\u2019Brien began by asking Jagger, 82, how he still sounds exactly as he did when he was in his 20s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>\u201cWell, I was taking a lot of drugs back in 1968,\u201d Jagger quipped.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an intervention, by the way,\u201d O\u2019Brien volleyed back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, God, not another one!\u201d Jagger exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. \u201cNo, the secret is practice, I think. It\u2019s simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>Richards, 82, meanwhile, spoke at length about he comes up with his classic guitar riffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t write em, you can\u2019t force em \u2014 they come to you,\u201d Richards said into his microphone, before apologizing to the crowd that most of his response was inaudible. \u201cI keep waving this thing around! The new album was recorded in just under a month in London, where the group reunited with &#8220;Hackney Diamonds&#8221; producer Andrew Watt.<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>It includes a special appearance from original drummer Charlie Watts, captured during one of his final recording sessions before his death in 2021 of squamous-cell carcinoma at age 80. The song is called \u201cHit Me in the Head.\u201d<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"\/>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s real fast, like a punk rocker,\u201d Jagger described. \u201cCharlie plays great \u2014 it\u2019s a super-fast song.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Steve Jordan, the band\u2019s current drummer, is otherwise featured on the album.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was recommended by Charlie,\u201d Wood, 78, explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Guest artists on \u201cForeign Tongues\u201d include Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, The Cure\u2019s Robert Smith, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. O\u2019Brien asked whether any of their collaborators were nervous to hop on a Stones song.<\/p>\n<p><cta-atoms-container-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/cta\" class=\"spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul really wanted to jump in there, he was next door at the studio,\u201d Jagger recalls. \u201cThere was no intimidation from Paul!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted to tick that box,\u201d Wood joked, chuckling to himself. \u201cHe said, \u2018Now I can say I\u2019ve played with the Rolling Stones! O\u2019Brien compared Jagger\u2019s gold-and-apricot-colored jacket to Willy Wonka, jesting that he chose not to wear it himself. (\u201cThat would\u2019ve been a disaster!\u201d Jagger playfully fired back.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They also showed off Nathaniel Mary Quinn\u2019s eye-catching album cover art, which is an amalgamation of the band\u2019s faces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call it Mr. Ugly,\u201d Jagger joked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wood quipped: \u201cIt\u2019s made to look like Mick!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Much of the conversation was about how the Stones continue to challenge themselves, and are more ambitious than ever on the 14-track \u201cForeign Tongues.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Stones is a rock band, but the Stones also has the ability to do ballads and country music and dance music,\u201d Jagger said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just stuck in one kind of style.
