Usher is paving the way for the youth to access opportunities in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n
As\u00a0previously reported by AFROTECH,<\/a> Usher has been intentional about supporting <\/span>youth from the start of his career. Five years after the launch of his self-titled album, he founded the nonprofit Usher\u2019s New Look\u00ae, driven by a desire to ensure children have greater access to resources than he did. His mother, Jonnetta Patton, and Shawn H. Wilson are the co-founders. Wilson also serves as president and chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit (BGCGD), which has been instrumental in several efforts to empower<\/a> the next generation.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/a> \u2122<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n In December 2025, BGCGD announced a $1 million investment<\/a> from Usher and Big Sean<\/a> in a Detroit incubator that prepares youth ages 14 to 24 for careers in fashion, film, television, music production, AI,<\/a> 3D, and other immersive technologies.<\/p>\n Now, Usher is leveraging his upcoming R&B Tour to prepare young people for careers in entertainment. The tour begins June 26 and will make stops in cities including Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Houston, New Orleans, and more, according to<\/a> an Instagram post.<\/p>\n The North American R&B Tour will pave the way for the Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition, an internship program launched in partnership with Usher\u2019s New Look\u00ae, and BGCGD. The workforce development initiative will accept participants ages 18 and older from Detroit and Atlanta, according to a press release shared with AFROTECH<\/p>\n \u2122<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n .<\/p>\n Participants will gain experience in the following areas:<\/p>\n Those accepted must complete pre-tour training on professional standards, safety, and role-specific skills, according to the press release. Additionally, interns will be required to partner with local Boys & Girls Clubs to lead career workshops, training sessions, and peer-to-peer learning experiences.<\/p>\n \u201cThe live touring industry is a multi-billion dollar global business \u2014 yet access to the entertainment trades remains limited,\u201d said Wilson in the press release. \u201cTogether, we\u2019re changing that by placing young professionals on one of the most historic tours and turning access into real pathways to lasting careers.\u201d<\/p>\n Usher commented:<\/p>\n \u201cAt Usher\u2019s New Look, we\u2019ve always believed talent is everywhere, but access is not. This program is opening doors and putting young professionals in a position to learn, grow, and work inside the entertainment trades.
