A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening King Charles III’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, near his Norfolk home this week.<\/p>\n
Police were called to an area near the Sandringham Estate, where Mr Mountbatten-Windsor moved earlier this year, at about 7.30pm Wednesday, local time, after receiving “a report a man was behaving in an intimidating manner”.<\/p>\n
“Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon,” a police statement read.<\/p>\n
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, was stripped of his royal titles last year and booted out of his grace-and-favour mansion near London where he had lived for decades.<\/p>\n
The 66-year-old has, since early February, resided at Marsh Farm \u2014 a property on the Sandringham Estate, which is privately owned by the royal family.<\/p>\n
It’s understood the incident took place while Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was walking his dogs, and that the former royal had been accompanied by a security detail at the time.<\/p>\n Security at Marsh Farm has been beefed up since the king’s brother moved in. (Reuters: Chris Radburn\u00a0<\/span>)<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, who remains eighth in line to the British throne, has attempted to keep a low profile since stepping back from royal duties in 2019.<\/p>\n He has been accused of multiple sexual offences \u2014 which he denies and has never been charged over \u2014 and earlier this year was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.<\/p>\n It’s understood the investigation relates to Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s time as a trade commissioner for the UK, a role he held for a decade from 2001.<\/p>\n These controversies are all connected to the former prince’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted paedophile who died by suicide in a New York prison in 2019.<\/p>\n While Mr Mountbatten-Windsor seldom makes public appearances these days, he remains among the United Kingdom’s most identifiable people.<\/p>\n Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s previous home, Royal Lodge, was part of the Windsor Estate, and had a significant security presence.<\/p>\n However, his new address is much less private.
