Blake Lively<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s lawyer is addressing claims that the actress and Justin Baldoni<\/strong><\/a> spent a whopping $60 million on dueling lawsuits.<\/p>\n

On Monday, May 4, the It Ends With Us<\/em><\/a> costars announced that they had settled their legal battle<\/a> after Lively, 38, sued Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios in December 2024, claiming, among other things, sexual harassment, retaliation and breach of contract. Baldoni filed a countersuit against Lively, which was dismissed in June 2025<\/a>, and last month a judge dismissed 10 of the 13 claims<\/a> in Lively\u2019s lawsuit, including the sexual harassment charges.<\/p>\n

However, just as it seemed the drama had come to an end, on Thursday, May 7, Lively filed a request for damages<\/a> as part of the settlement, accusing Baldoni, 42, of filing a retaliatory lawsuit against her for speaking out about alleged sexual harassment. Lively\u2019s attorneys argue Baldoni is liable to pay under California Civil Code Section 47.1, which aims to protect victims of sexual harassment from retaliatory defamation lawsuits.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Lively\u2019s lawyer, Sigrid McCawley<\/strong>, addressed the star\u2019s latest legal move in an interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> and was asked about rumors that Lively and Baldoni poured millions of dollars into their legal battle. Page Six<\/em><\/a> claimed on Tuesday, May 5, the pair spent $60 million on the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, certainly any battle like this is expensive. And that\u2019s why laws like the law that\u2019s been passed in California that she\u2019s proceeding under are so important,\u201d McCawley responded to a question about the cost of the legal proceedings.<\/p>\n

McCawley said the Section 47.1 law invoked by Lively stops people \u201cweaponizing the legal system against the individuals who report things like sexual harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s really critical because most people can\u2019t afford to undertake this kind of significant battle,\u201d the lawyer added. \u201cShe knows that that\u2019s a privilege. She knows that most people are not in a position to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier on Thursday, Lively\u2019s attorneys, Michael Gottlieb<\/strong> and Esra Hudson<\/strong>, said of the request for damages, \u201cBy agreeing to this settlement and waiving their right to appeal, Justin Baldoni and every individual defendant now face personal liability for abusing the legal system to silence and intimidate Ms. Lively. And by admitting that Ms. Lively\u2019s concerns \u2018deserved to be heard,\u2019 the defendants have ended once and for all the fiction that Ms. Lively \u2018fabricated\u2019 claims of sexual harassment and retaliation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Gossip Girl star kicked off the legal battle by filing a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department and subsequently sued Baldoni over sexual harassment allegations.
