This week, he dropped the second single, \u201cWar Over Land,\u201d from his new record, due out on May 21.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, this s*** delivers on the promise. I\u2019ve listened to it over and over and over, and there\u2019s so much going on. It\u2019s a little bit rock, a little bit gospel, a little bit more gospel, and deeply experimental.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a creativity here that\u2019s tough to put your finger on, but I also think you\u2019re not supposed to be able to. The Texas-born rocker blends Country &amp; Western with post-grunge in a way that scratches so many itches.<\/p>\n<p>His newest song, \u201cHurts Like You, has grit, but never sacrifices melody. It\u2019s relentlessly catchy, but it still has balls. You\u2019ll sing along, but it might sting a little.
