Budden\u2019s questions continued from there, with Punch asked if he currently purchases bots (\u201cAbsolutely not\u201d) or ever has (\u201cI\u2019ve never\u201d). Punch, however, offered an \u201cof course\u201d when asked whether he\u2019s heard of others in in the industry employing the practice. He went on to say that he isn\u2019t knowledgeable as to how one might purchase bots, nor is he aware of what they might cost.<\/p>\n

As Punch sees it, versions of the practice, despite receiving more attention in recent years, actually date back to the MySpace<\/a> era.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut our whole thing was like, if we do that, how are we going to know who the actual fan is?\u201d he said, as seen in this clip<\/a>. \u201cLike, we do a show, [and] don’t nobody show up because it was all fake. So we purposely chose not to do that back then.\u201d<\/p>\n

Punch later added that he and TDE have \u201cnever been based on actual numbers.\u201d Instead, their focus has been on ensuring attendance at live performances is reflective of their artists\u2019 actual audience.<\/p>\n
