Last week, Greta Van Fleet<\/a> shared a cryptic video<\/a> that led their followers to think that they’re breaking up. (Shortley thereafter, one fan found an equally vague clue<\/a> hidden in their GVF’s website that drew further speculation.) Now, Greta Van Fleet have officially squashed the breakup rumor by sharing an enthusiastic message and<\/em>\u00a0in-studio footage of them performing\/recording a new song!<\/p>\n This past Friday (May 8), Greta Van Fleet posted to social media a roughly minute-long clip of them doing an undisclosed (and traditionally GVF-sounding) song that doesn\u2019t<\/em> appear on any of their LPs or EPs. Alongside it, they wrote: \u201cWe\u2019re back, baby!\u201d<\/p>\n That said, and based on the chorus, many fans are calling it \u201cPlay Your Games.\u201d In fact, Genius.com<\/a> already has an (incomplete) entry for the song, and they specify that it comes from GVF4<\/em> \u2013 likely a working title \u2013 which\u00a0the website implies will be released on May 29, 2026 and<\/em> produced by Dave Cobb (who also produced\u00a0GVF’s last LP, 2023\u2019s Starcatcher<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n [Verse 1] [Pre-Chorus] [Chorus] You can see the full clip below:<\/p>\n As Classic Rock<\/a><\/em> magazine clarified, \u201cGreta Van Fleet haven’t played live since completing a set in September 2024 at the Soundside Music Festival<\/a> in Bridgeport, CT, while the band’s last recorded release was the promotional single \u2018Farewell For Now\u2019 the previous year [in 2023].\u201d<\/p>\n So, the news of their return and<\/em> promise of new music has certainly made fans feel relieved and excited.<\/p>\n On that note, countless Greta Van Fleet followers have reacted to their post with, well, relief and excitement.<\/p>\n For example, one user on X replied<\/a>: \u201cThis reminds me of the good old stuff tbh keep it up.\u201d Likewise, another person on X commented<\/a>: \u201cI can\u2019t wait! I need a Greta Van Fleet fix!\u00a0 When are you guys touring again?!\u201d<\/p>\n Similarly, someone on Facebook responded<\/a>, \u201cI literally just let out the most audible sigh of relief in the history of the world,\u201d just as someone on Instagram rejoiced<\/a>: \u201cBIGGEST SMILE ON MY FACE EVERRR!!!!\u201d Elsewhere, someone on YouTube declared<\/a>: \u201cYESSSSSSS!! I totally understand the hiatus and I think I speak for the fan base, we are so happy to have this sound back!\u201d<\/p>\n Of course, the group\u2019s latest update also drew criticism and mockery, such as one X user who stated<\/a>: \u201cYikes the singer needs to cut down on that irritating sound he makes I\u2019d rather hear his copying Robert Plant sound not that squelching tone retire that sound.\u201d<\/p>\n You can see some of those reactions \u2013 and plenty more \u2013 below:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n As Loudwire<\/a> wrote on May 4, Greta Van Fleet \u201cshared a montage of clips from different music videos they’ve released over the years, starting with the 2017 hit that launched their career, \u2018Highway Tune.\u2019” Plus, “A message pops up at the end of the video that reads, \u2018Thanks for the wild ride. Love, Josh, Jake, Sam and Daniel,\u2019 which is also the caption of the post.”<\/p>\n Naturally, a lot of people weren\u2019t pleased about the potential end of the band. That said, there was a Reddit<\/a> thread about it that included speculation regarding the clip featuring previously unheard music.<\/p>\n Two days later, Loudwire<\/a> followed up with a story about a GVF fan finding \u201csome sort of apparent clue hidden in the band\u2019s website.\u201d In particular, the fan went on Reddit and posted<\/a> about something they found \u201cin the code of the site.\u201d<\/p>\n As we described it:<\/p>\n The photo shows a pattern that almost resembles a medieval castle with two vertical windows, one of which has the letter \u201cM\u201d in the middle. Underneath the figure is an arrow that points to \u201c$0.\u201d . . .\u00a0 There was quite a bit of speculation in the comments section of the post, with some thinking the \u2018M\u2019 is a reference to guitarist\u00a0Jake Kiszka<\/a>‘s side project,\u00a0Mirador<\/a>, which has been more active over the last year than Greta have.<\/p>\n Another fan pointed out, \u201cWith the \u2018$0′ at the end, it makes me wonder if they\u2019re doing a secret location show where anyone who shows up gets in free? Who knows.
