Leeds quartet\u00a0Yard Act\u00a0<\/strong>announce their new album,\u00a0You\u2019re Gonna Need A Little Music<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>out\u00a0July 17th<\/strong>\u00a0via\u00a0Republic Records<\/strong>\u00a0and release the lead single, \u201cRedeemer<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0You\u2019re Gonna Need A Little Music<\/em>\u00a0follows the band\u2019s UK Top 5 charting\u00a0Where\u2019s My Utopia?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2024) and their Mercury Prize nominated debut,\u00a0The Overload<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2022). Recorded between Leeds and Los Angeles with producer\u00a0Justin Meldal-Johnsen<\/strong>\u00a0(Nine Inch Nails, Beck, St. Vincent),\u00a0You\u2019re Gonna Need A Little Music<\/em>\u00a0rings with the chemistry and energy of a band absolutely locked in. It\u2019s simultaneously the most dynamic, collaborative, energized work they\u2019ve laid to tape, but also contains some of the darkest, most cynical and truly questioning moments they\u2019ve concocted too, picking up their tale and examining the findings more unsparingly than ever.<\/p>\n

For a band so associated with incendiary live shows and constant touring, Yard Act\u2019s third album marks the first time that the quartet\u2014frontman and vocalist\u00a0James Smith<\/strong>, bassist\u00a0Ryan Needham<\/strong>, guitarist\u00a0Sam Shjipstone<\/strong>, and drummer\u00a0Jay Russell<\/strong>\u2014have ever made an album together, as a live band in the same room.\u00a0\u201cThe first two records were both laptop records essentially,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>says Smith.\u00a0The Overload<\/em>\u00a0was written alongside Needham before the band had fully formed; its follow-up,\u00a0Where\u2019s My Utopia<\/em>?, was carved out in snatches of time on tour buses and hotel rooms. For the first time in a long time, Yard Act were able to settle into an\u00a0\u201cuninterrupted five month period\u201d<\/em>\u00a0of creativity, crafting\u00a0\u201c40 or 50 songs\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and allowing themselves to follow their ideas with no external pressure.\u00a0\u201cIt felt like freedom,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says Smith.\u00a0\u201cIt felt like everything I\u2019d wanted from being in a band.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Each track on\u00a0You\u2019re Gonna Need A Little Music<\/em>\u00a0has its own distinct character. The ominous guttural ferocity of today\u2019s single, \u201cRedeemer,\u201d sits amongst a sleazy disco odyssey, fizzing indie, and loose, cerebral, meditations. Yard Act may have thrown the kitchen sink, or at least its cookware at the track, with Meldal-Johnsen concocting a brittle, metallic texture out of a day of rattling pots and pans, but the result is direct, visceral, and exciting.<\/p>\n
