Five months ago, Ariana Grande<\/a> joked about needing \u201can extra brain and four more arms\u201d to shift back into album mode. Her most recent record, Eternal Sunshine, <\/em><\/a>arrived two years ago and spun off a deluxe edition<\/a> released last year. It probably would have been enough to hold fans over for a while longer, but Grande couldn\u2019t help but find her way back to the studio: her eighth album, Petal<\/em>, arrives July 31.<\/p>\n Grande will be in the middle of the Eternal Sunshine <\/em>tour<\/a> when the record arrives. She gathered her team at the label to preview the record, which she captured and shared in a teasing Instagram video. Explaining the idea behind the album, she described the album as \u201ca little feral,\u201d adding, \u201cIt\u2019s definitely from a place where I have been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before. This kind of just feels like, fuck it.\u201d<\/p>\n In her video explaining the album to her label, Grande said the album creation process involved \u201cbreaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments \u2014 whether it\u2019s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me.\u201d From a songwriting perspective, it presented her with a new challenge. \u201cIt was a writing experiment for me to use that as a template so that I could be talking about one thing and sharing something,\u201d she said, \u201cand people could use it however they want and apply it to their own lives.\u201d<\/p>\n On Friday, May 8, Grande revealed the title of the first single from Petal<\/em>, \u201cHate That I Made You Love Me\u201d will be released on May 29. In an Instagram<\/a> post, she praised the record as \u201cone of my favorite songs I\u2019ll ever write.\u201d<\/p>\n In her post announcing \u201cHate That I Made You Love Me,\u201d Grande noted that she co-produced the record alongside two long-time collaborators and \u201cdearest human beings in the world,\u201d Max Martin and Ilya.
