Sony Music Publishing has reached an agreement to acquire the complete music rights portfolio of Recognition Music Group from funds managed by Blackstone.<\/span><\/p>\n The deal subject to the usual closing conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hipgnosis Songs Fund rebranded to Recognition Music Group last year \u2013 a move first revealed by Music Week.<\/span><\/p>\n The Sony Music Publishing deal is in partnership with the investment venture announced earlier this year between GIC and Sony Music Group, which is focused on acquiring and growing high?quality music catalogue assets across genres and international markets.<\/span><\/p>\n The deal will see Sony Music Publishing acquiring Recognition\u2019s entire catalogue of works, encompassing over 45,000 songs performed by top artists.<\/span><\/p>\n The songs will be familiar from the Hipgnosis years when catalogue deals were announced on a regular basis. They including Journey\u2019s Don\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019, Red Hot Chili Peppers\u2019 Under the Bridge, Fleetwood Mac\u2019s Go Your Own Way, Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), Bruno Mars\u2019 Locked Out of Heaven, Leonard Cohen\u2019s Hallelujah, Chic\u2019s Good Times, Soundgarden\u2019s Black Hole Sun, Lady Gaga\u2019s Bad Romance, Bon Jovi\u2019s Livin\u2019 On A Prayer, Rihanna\u2019s Umbrella, Eurythmics\u2019 Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Shakira\u2019s Whenever, Wherever, Steve Winwood\u2019s Higher Love and Mariah Carey\u2019s All I Want For Christmas Is You, among many others.<\/span><\/p>\n Rob Stringer, chairman, Sony Music Group, said: \u201cWe are so proud and excited to represent this incredible catalogue of many of the greatest songs in pop history through this momentous acquisition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Jon Platt, chairman & CEO, Sony Music Publishing, said: \u201cOur investment in this extraordinary catalogue reflects our belief in the enduring power of great music \u2013 a belief that resonates deeply throughout Sony Music Group and is shared by our partners at GIC.
