INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) \u2014 A new book titled \u201cKate\u201d by author Christopher Andersen offers a detailed portrait of Catherine, Princess of Wales, focusing on her public role, personal resilience, and life within the royal family.<\/p>\n
The book examines her cancer diagnosis and treatment in early 2024 at The London Clinic, a period Andersen says also brought her closer to King Charles III, who received his own cancer diagnosis around the same time.<\/p>\n
Andersen, an 18-time New York Times bestselling author and former contributing editor at Time and senior editor at People, describes the Princess of Wales as a woman defined by \u201cgrit and courage and stamina,\u201d saying her private strength is often overlooked beneath her public image.<\/p>\n
He also traces her background, noting her family\u2019s working-class roots and emphasizing the stability of her upbringing as she stepped into her role as a senior royal.<\/p>\n
Andersen opens the book with accounts of the January 2024 surgery at The London Clinic, where Princess Catherine was treated, and cancer cells were later discovered, as well as King Charles III\u2019s separate diagnosis around the same time. He describes a period in which the two reportedly supported one another through illness.<\/p>\n
The author also discusses Catherine\u2019s influence within the royal family and her public image, including her role as a strong supporter during high-profile family controversies and her global popularity, often referred to as the \u201cKate effect\u201d in fashion.<\/p>\n
He adds that Princess Catherine continues to be viewed as one of the most recognizable figures in the monarchy and is scheduled to travel to Italy, her first overseas trip since her diagnosis.<\/p>\n
