Queen Camilla used to be one of Kate\u2019s \u201cfiercest critics\u201d \u2014 and \u201cdid object\u201d to her marrying Prince William.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

King Charles\u2019 wife believed the now-Princess of Wales, 44, was \u201ctoo common\u201d to wed William in 2011, according to Christopher Andersen\u2019s Kate!<\/i> biography, out last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe did not think she was up to snuff, as it were,\u201d the new book reads. \u201cShe was below the salt. She had no aristocratic blood\u201d.<\/p>\n

He claimed Camilla \u201calways saw herself as the mistress of a king, not a queen\u201d and \u201cpicked [Princess] Diana to be Charles\u2019 bride\u201d in 1981, reports Page Six<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n

Mr Anderson noted that \u201cthe palace didn\u2019t really want\u201d Kate, whom William met attending the University of St Andrews in Scotland.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople like Camilla didn\u2019t want her because they felt that she was too common to be the wife of a future king,\u201d the biographer wrote, alleging the 78-year-old \u201cdid object\u201d to her daughter-in-law\u2019s \u201cworking-class roots\u201d.<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s parents, Carole Middleton and Michael Middleton, are former British Airways employees who founded a successful party supply business.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Camilla] was very cognisant of the fact that a future king of England should have, she believed, a marriage to a royal personage, or at least a British aristocrat,\u201d Mr Anderson wrote \u2014 not \u201ca descendant of coal miners whose mother had grown up in public housing and once worked as a flight attendant\u201d.<\/p>\n

As for Camilla\u2019s thoughts on Kate\u2019s mum, she allegedly believed Carole to be a \u201cgauche opportunist\u201d and \u201cknew a schemer when she saw one\u201d.<\/p>\n

Spokespeople for Queen Camilla and Princess Kate did not immediately respond to Page Six<\/i>\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Kate and William, 43, got engaged in October 2010 and tied the knot in April of the following year.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2011 nuptials, Camilla and King Charles, 77, reportedly \u201coffended\u201d the bride by requesting she change the letter of her first name, Catherine, from a C to a K.<\/p>\n

They believed another C royal cipher \u2014 a personalised monogram or emblem representing a royal family member \u2014 would be \u201coverkill,\u201d Mr Anderson wrote.<\/p>\n

When William was left allegedly \u201cfuming\u201d over the \u201cinsult,\u201d the subject was dropped.<\/p>\n

The author claimed Kate and William\u2019s early days included \u201ca lot of sniping from the sidelines, much of it coming from Camilla\u2019s camp\u201d \u2014 but the Princess \u201cnever put a foot wrong\u201d.<\/p>\n

Kate and the Prince of Wales have since welcomed three children \u2014 Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.<\/p>\n
