\u201cDaily Show\u201d host Jon Stewart<\/a> spent most of his opening segment on Monday torching the news media for its wall-to-wall coverage of hantavirus<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Stewart seemed to suggest that many outlets continued to push a panicked narrative, despite most experts saying it was unlikely to be an emergency. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe point is, some people may get pretty sick, but forget COVID. This ain\u2019t no pandemic. <\/span>Hell, this hantavirus, it\u2019s not even in monkeypox territory. <\/span>But, I guess reality don\u2019t sell papers,\u201d Stewart said before playing a barrage of clips featuring news anchors prodding infectious disease experts on whether this will be another pandemic. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n He then played clips of those same experts, all saying, in one form or another, that hantavirus\u2019 risk to the general public remains low.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cExpert upon expert, scientist upon scientist, very transparently explained why this illness, while a serious illness, is a low-level public health threat. Their words went a long way to easing the concerns of a curious public. And Lord knows the news can\u2019t let that happen,\u201d Stewart said. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d host seemed particularly exasperated by the media\u2019s coverage of the cruise passengers disembarking from their ship in Spain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe news experts say stay calm, but the news media says no, I believe we prefer panic,\u201d Stewart said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Watch Stewart\u2019s full opening segment from Monday\u2019s show here: <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
