Queen Camilla<\/a><\/strong> reportedly wasn\u2019t thrilled when Prince William<\/a><\/strong> decided Kate Middleton<\/a><\/strong> was the woman he wanted to marry. A new royal biography claimed the now-queen once viewed the future Princess of Wales as \u201ctoo common\u201d for the royal family.<\/p>\n

The allegations appeared in royal author Christopher Andersen\u2019s latest book, \u201cKate!\u201d, which revisited William and Kate\u2019s early years together before their 2011 wedding.<\/p>\n

According to Andersen, Camilla was one of Kate\u2019s \u201cfiercest critics\u201d during the early stages of her relationship with William. The author claimed Camilla believed a future king should marry someone with aristocratic ties rather than a woman from a middle-class background.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe did not think she was up to snuff, as it were,\u201d the new book reads. It continued: \u201cShe was below the salt. She had no aristocratic blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, famously built a successful party supply business after previously working for British Airways. However, Andersen claimed some royal insiders viewed Kate\u2019s upbringing as too ordinary for someone expected to become queen one day.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople like Camilla didn\u2019t want her because they felt that she was too common to be the wife of a future king,\u201d the author wrote.<\/p>\n

The biography also alleged Queen Camilla<\/a> held strong opinions about Kate\u2019s mother, reportedly viewing Carole as a \u201cgauche opportunist.\u201d Andersen claimed the queen consort believed she \u201cknew a schemer when she saw one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prince William and Kate Middleton first met while attending the University of St Andrews in Scotland before becoming engaged in 2010. They married at Westminster Abbey the following year in one of the decade\u2019s biggest royal events.<\/p>\n

According to the book, tensions allegedly surfaced again ahead of the wedding when Camilla and King Charles reportedly suggested Kate alter the spelling used for her royal cypher. Andersen claimed they believed another royal monogram beginning with the letter \u201cC\u201d would be \u201coverkill.\u201d<\/p>\n

The suggestion reportedly left William upset enough that the issue was ultimately dropped.<\/p>\n

Despite the alleged criticism behind palace walls, Andersen wrote that Kate \u201cnever put a foot wrong\u201d during her early years within the royal family. The author also claimed much of the \u201csniping from the sidelines\u201d came from Camilla\u2019s camp during that period.<\/p>\n

Representatives for both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace did not publicly comment on the claims surrounding the biography.<\/p>\n
