U2 fans shared their delight at seeing the group back together, recording a new music video for what could be the lead single of their new album. <\/p>\n
Speculation is rife on the r\/U2Band subreddit, with many believing a recent clip released by the band is to tee up a new album. It would mark the band\u2019s first studio album release since 2023\u2019s Songs of Surrender<\/a><\/em>. Other fans believe the song may be tied to the upcoming World Cup rather than a song from the rumoured new album. U2<\/a> has released two EPs of new material this year, with guitarist The Edge<\/a> confirming the band was back in the studio and working on new material. <\/p>\n Larry Mullin Jr. said of the clip: \u201cIt\u2019s a little NGO with a big kick for kids with all of the talent and none of the access. Our band are proud supporters.\u201d The release comes in the same week that Mexico City will host the 2026 Street Child World Cup, with the tournament set to take place between May 6 and May 14. <\/p>\n A fan took to the U2 forum and shared the new snippet of the song, reportedly called Street of Dreams<\/em>. Another fan noted that the song sounds \u201ccatchy\u201d, while a third was less impressed, saying it sounded like \u201cone of the dozen songs made for a sports event opening ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n Others believe it is strange for the band to have released a snippet of the song, rather than the song itself. One wrote: \u201cI find it strange releasing a snippet of the video shoot before the actual single, they should\u2019ve just dropped the full single too. I\u2019m not going to judge this from a clip recorded with a phone.\u201d<\/p>\n Some fans believe the song is set to be used as part of the World Cup celebrations later this year. One person wrote: \u201cI\u2019ll reserve full judgment on the song \u2019til it\u2019s released. Initial impression is yep very World Cuppy. Ha. Not necessarily the \u2018serious\u2019 music I love to hear from them\u2026but what does the rest hold? <\/p>\n \u201cI agree that Easter Lily<\/em> is a promising start for the next release. But this seems to lean a more familiar direction than many of us would prefer. Hmm.\u201d<\/p>\n Another disagreed, suggesting the song would feature on the upcoming, unannounced album. They wrote: \u201c2026 Street Child World Cup this week in Mexico. Larry makes a mention in the media release, the band\u2019s been supporting the NGO for a while now.
