Donald Gibb, the actor who played the hulking fraternity bro Ogre in \u201cRevenge of the Nerds\u201d and Ray \u201cTiny\u201d Jackson in \u201cBloodsport,\u201d has died. He was 71.<\/p>\n
Gibb\u2019s son Travis confirmed his father\u2019s death to TMZ<\/a> on Tuesday evening after he died earlier that day at home in Texas surrounded by family. Gibb, a former professional wrestler under the name \u201cDon Gibb,\u201d succumbed to \u201chealth complications,\u201d according to his son. <\/p>\n A statement from the family, provided to People<\/a>, described Gibb as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and actor.<\/p>\n \u201cKnown for his larger-than-life presence on screen and his kindness off screen, he brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories to countless people throughout his life and career,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n \u201cAbove all else, Donald treasured his faith and the people he loved,\u201d it continued. \u201cHis strength, generosity, and spirit will never be forgotten by those who had the privilege of knowing him personally and by the many fans whose lives he touched over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBloodsport\u201d star Jean-Claude Van Damme remembered Gibb in an Instagram story<\/a>, posting a photo from 1986 and writing \u201cRest in peace, my brother.\u201d He also reposted a reel<\/a> showing himself and Gibb in the 1988 movie. <\/p>\n \u201cWhether he was the lovable brute Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds or the fearless Ray Jackson in Bloodsport, Donald brought a heart as big as his frame to every role,\u201d the caption on the reposted reel said. \u201cWatching him alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme was the ultimate display of brotherhood on screen. In the clip, JCVD asks, \u2018What took you so long?\u2019 It\u2019s a bitter-sweet reminder that while he\u2019s gone too soon, his legacy in the martial arts and 80s cinema world is timeless. \u2018Anytime, anyplace, anywhere.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n A representative for Gibb didn\u2019t respond immediately Wednesday to The Times\u2019 request for comment.<\/p>\n Gibb had about 100 credits, including the sequels \u201cBloodsport\u201d and the movie and TV sequels to \u201cNerds.\u201d<\/p>\n Born Aug. 4, 1954, Gibb started his career in the early 1980s with uncredited roles in \u201cAny Which Way You Can,\u201d \u201cStripes\u201d and \u201cConan the Barbarian.\u201d His TV credits included episodes of \u201cCheers,\u201d \u201cMacGyver\u201d and \u201cThe Young and the Restless.\u201d<\/p>\n He acted into 2011, then tagged on one last credit, for the 2026 movie release \u201cHands.\u201d According to IMDb, that filmed sometime in 2023 or 2024. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
