But things have changed now.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The White Sox beat the Royals 6-5 on Wednesday night at Rate Field for Chicago\u2019s fourth victory in six tries against KC this season. It was also the Royals\u2019 third straight loss and they dropped to 19-24.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals are just four back of the Guardians in the American League Central, but Cleveland is the only team above .500. Chicago improved to 21-21.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Royals manager Matt Quatraro was asked before the game if he expects a tight race in the division.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would think, but I hope not,\u201d Quatraro said. \u201cI hope we run away with it. That\u2019s our plan, but we\u2019ve got to play good baseball more consistently to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals\u2019 early season troubles with runners in scoring position (RISP) resurfaced Wednesday night. They were just 2 for 10 with RISP after batting .295 in that situation since April 22.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino had that first hit, a two-run single that tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning. But Jarred Kelenic\u2019s two-run double in the bottom of the fifth put the White Sox up for good.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. had another big moment in the ninth inning, launching a two-run homer that got the Royals within one. But they couldn\u2019t complete the comeback.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Seth Lugo\u2019s night<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Royals pitcher Seth Lugo struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Lugo (1-3) struck out four, including <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/article315741937.html\">one on a milestone punchout<\/a>, and walked two.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>After showing some early dominance, the Royals\u2019 starting pitchers have just one quality start between them in the team\u2019s last seven games.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">KC injury update<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Left-handed starting pitcher Cole Ragans, who is out with elbow impingement, played catch for a second straight day (and third time in four days).<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re trying to keep him as in as much of a normal routine as possible,\u201d Royals manager Matt Quatraro said, \u201cso he\u2019ll continue to build the distance and the intensity and then hopefully be off the mound here relatively soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p><b>Up next:<\/b> The Royals will wrap up their three-game series with the White Sox on Thursday \u2014 and both teams plan to start left-handers.
