{"id":2416717,"date":"2026-05-14T16:27:49","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2416717"},"modified":"2026-05-14T16:27:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:27:49","slug":"new-web-series-performances-on-replay-brings-local-music-scene-to-vintage-shop-in-jacksonville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/new-web-series-performances-on-replay-brings-local-music-scene-to-vintage-shop-in-jacksonville\/","title":{"rendered":"New web series \u2018Performances on Replay\u2019 brings local music scene to vintage shop in Jacksonville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article_content\">\n<p>JACKSONVILLE \u2013 Surrounded by rows of records, music memorabilia and Hot Wheels cars hanging on the wall for sale, musicians pack into the Replay Music and More in Jacksonville to perform private concerts for the new YouTube web series \u201cPerformances on Replay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Creators Hunter Hauk, a journalist and owner of Replay Music and More, and Isaac Belota, a documentarian, joined creative forces in April to bring East Texas artists and bands from every genre into the local thrift, vintage and music store to play and discuss their original music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis whole area is like at the brink of a renaissance, and unfortunately the space for music isn\u2019t really there yet,\u201d Belota said. \u201cI like the punk rock ethos of if you want to see something happen in your community, it\u2019s up to you to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After being a regular customer at the store, Belota approached Hauk with the idea of bringing bands from across East Texas and beyond into the shop to perform, record video and participate in interviews to post online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to do something different,\u201d Belota said. \u201cI think it was starting to pour down rain, and he was running stuff back and forth from the car and I\u2019m like, \u2018Hey, can I invite bands over and record them in your place?\u2019 and there\u2019s a lot of people who don\u2019t get it, but Hunter gets it and so he was like like, \u2018Yeah, sure!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_978247\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-978247\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hunter Hauk, journalist and owner of Replay Music and More, left, and Isaac Belota, documentarian, pose inside Replay Music and More in Jacksonville, Texas on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. (Leeza Meyer\/Tyler Morning Telegraph)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Belota said his inspiration came from the former DeadStreet Studios in Tyler, which operated out of an auto body shop off West Elm Street and hosted ticketed concerts for local bands, and NPR Music\u2019s \u201cTiny Desk Concerts\u201d, which features well-known musicians in intimate settings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"instory_widget\" style=\"list-style:none;\">\n<div class=\"textwidget custom-html-widget\">\n<h3 class=\"section\">&#13;<br \/>\n\t<span>Email newsletter signup<\/span> &#13;<br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p><center><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tylerpaper.com\/services\/newsletters\/\">&#13;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/victoriaadvocate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2026\/04\/Newletter_signUp_Small.png\" alt=\"Newsletter SignUp\"\/><\/a><\/center><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so many good bands, but they don\u2019t really have a way to put their stuff out there,\u201d Belota said. \u201cAlthough we don\u2019t have enough room to mosh pit in there, I can still use these gifts that I have and knowledge I have to promote local bands and maybe drum up some interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belota and Hauk interlace interviews with performances throughout each episode to provide context and anecdotes behind the bands\u2019 music and help audiences connect with the artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYouTube is so powerful to make people interested in stuff,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cIf it\u2019s in a small town and there\u2019s a scene happening from YouTube, it\u2019s kind of exciting because you can connect with the people creating it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hauk said the web series became an opportunity to continue his late father\u2019s passion for the store while helping create a music culture in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have a culture in a small town makes a big difference for people living here and when Isaac came to me with that idea I was like, \u2018I\u2019m so lucky\u2019 because it\u2019s nice to have somebody interested enough in the culture of a town to want to come and do something like this,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen anything like this happening in Jacksonville before, even though there\u2019s a lot of good culture happening, the element of local music is not something we\u2019re used to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Hauk, Hunter\u2019s father, founded Replay Music and More in the 1990s, and the business grew into a longtime Jacksonville favorite. The store on North Bolton Street continues to buy, sell and rent physical media, including vinyl records, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, LaserDiscs, 8-track tapes, along with gifts, antiques and guitars.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Hauk left a journalism career of more than 25 years to take over the business after his father died from cancer last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople come in every single day still, and my dad died in August, and they come in and say, \u2018Is the old man here?\u2019 and I\u2019m like no,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cThey tell you to talk about the person every day or every year or so to transition yourself into a good place and I didn\u2019t even have to do it because people do it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hauk said he wants the shop to become more than a store and instead serve as a \u201cthird place\u201d outside of home or work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a different place where you can go and hang out and get something new every once in a while,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cI think that\u2019s what my dad would\u2019ve wanted, and that\u2019s what he always thought of it as.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hauk joked that his father knew the area \u201clike the back of his hand\u201d because he knew everyone\u2019s family and where they were from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would be amazed at what we\u2019re doing here,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cHe wouldn\u2019t even be able to wrap his head around it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The web series currently includes three episodes, each about 20 to 30 minutes long, featuring jazz-funk-rock band Wannabe Wannabes, indie folk band Gypsum and the Travelers and rock group Real Live Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfterwards, you might catch the band next week or at some place around town, or if they put out an album, you will have heard a little bit of their stuff,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cIt feels grounding, like there\u2019s something worth staying here for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belota said the series offers a different experience to both listeners and artists because of its interactive format and intimate setting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s such a different experience than like me going on Spotify and listening to their stuff,\u201d Belota said. \u201cEven the space in there kind of brings stuff out of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belota and Hauk use thrifted equipment for video and sound and self-produce and edit the series themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been really blown away by some moments from the bands,\u201d Hauk said. \u201cWhen Real Live Wire got to the end of one of their songs, I couldn\u2019t believe that I was in the same room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belota said the goal is to focus and promote East Texas artists, but all musicians are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won\u2019t be opposed if another band comes along, but it\u2019s always going to be the heart of it,\u201d Belota said. \u201cWe want to promote local music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a shared passion for communication and connecting with people from all walks of life, Belota and Hauk said they hope to create a supportive atmosphere rather than a competitive one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read David Byrne\u2019s book, from the Talking Heads, and he was talking about what ingredients you need to create a scene,\u201d Belota said. \u201cOne is basically you need a space where bands can play at any level and they\u2019re also free to hang out, and the other one is it\u2019s affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belota and Hauk said they hope the series grows organically and brings attention to East Texas music and culture through YouTube.
