Nicki Minaj <\/a>hasn\u2019t been shy about her support for Donald Trump<\/a> and the Make America Great Again movement in the last year, but it took a lot for her to come out publicly and back the president, as she was initially afraid of the backlash from her peers in the music industry.<\/p>\n Minaj, who has branded herself as the president\u2019s \u201cNo. 1 fan,\u201d <\/a>went deep about her Trump support and political activism in an interview with TIME<\/a> published on Wednesday (May 13).<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI felt that way already about him, just that I didn\u2019t dare act like that publicly,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s been ingrained in everyone\u2019s brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n Minaj continued: \u201cMany celebrities feel the way I do, but they don\u2019t say it. Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change. Hopefully, when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy.\u201d<\/p>\n For the \u201cSuper Bass\u201d rapper, she felt compelled to speak up about her MAGA pivot after she was allegedly \u201ccompletely ignored\u201d by California Governor Gavin Newsom, following repeated swatting calls<\/a> to her California home.<\/p>\n That\u2019s when Republican U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna stepped in to have her touch base with law enforcement and a private security firm to put an end to the swatting.<\/p>\n \u201cI was shocked. I\u2019d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way,\u201d she told TIME. \u201cThat\u2019s what made me say that I don\u2019t care to keep this a secret anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n Minaj is open to continuing to delve further into politics and doing \u201cwhatever it is\u201d to support Trump in the upcoming midterms. The Queens, New York, native even compared him to Marilyn Monroe. \u201cIt\u2019s the same way Marilyn Monroe represents a vibe \u2014 Donald Trump is his own vibe,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n Continuing her war with rival Jay-Z,<\/a> Minaj didn\u2019t miss a chance to take a swipe at Hov, even while talking about Barack Obama. \u201cLots of rappers don\u2019t like Jay-Z and were afraid to say it,\u201d she claimed.<\/p>\n She even looked back on her disproven 2021 claim<\/a> that the COVID-19 vaccine was causing impotence and swollen testicles in Trinidad. \u201cI guess they had examined everyone\u2019s testicles in Trinidad and came back to tell me that I was lying,\u201d Minaj quipped.<\/p>\n After months of public support, she met Donald Trump<\/a> for the first time at a Trump Accounts Summit<\/a> in January, where the president revealed that Minaj invested\u00a0\u201chundreds of thousands of dollars in Trump Accounts.\u201d<\/p>\n Last year, Minaj commended the Trump administration during an interview with Erika Kirk at a Turning Point USA<\/a> event.
