Parent Teacher is the musical endeavor of NYC-based Richard Spitzer. A few weeks back, he announced his new album Tricks For Meds<\/em> with the release of exceptionally titled lead single “Timeline Rabies.” Today he’s got another new track, “Narcissists,” which allows me a fresh opportunity to extend an endorsement.<\/p>\n

Tricks For Meds<\/em> is a great record. I’m not entirely sure where to situate its sound. There’s some Angel Du$t in the way Spitzer applies a punk edge to extremely poppy songs, and his voice reminds me of Enon’s John Schmersal doing his best Hotline TNT. I hear bits of grunge, power-pop, space-rock, post-punk, and pop-punk in there, and the music has an electronic streak despite its firm roots in guitar-based rock music. It’s catchy, sophisticated stuff with a clear point of view despite its myriad stylistic swerves.<\/p>\n

These two singles only give you part of the picture, but it’s an enticing view through the window into a project that should be on your radar. Listen below.<\/p>\n
