I mean, everybody knows how I feel about \u2018Jonah Hex.\u2018\u201d He said in 2024, \u201cI won\u2019t ever stop shitting on \u2018Jonah Hex\u2019 because it was a shitty fucking movie!\u201d Brolin had previously blamed much of the problem on his hiring of an inexperienced director, Jimmy Hayward; he\u2019d done so after being rushed by the studio to pick someone within two weeks. \u201cI just think we made a big mistake with the director \u2014 not to blame it all at him, because that was my choice, that was my bad choice.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

For the second film, \u201cG.I. Joe: Retaliation,\u201d<\/em> he asked that his character be killed in the first 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

From \u201cCoach Carter,\u201d they signed me to a three-picture deal \u2026 As a young [actor], you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I\u2019m doing that!\u2019\u201d He continued. \u201cTime goes by, and you get other jobs, and you\u2019re building your quote, and you have a dream job you want to do. And \u2026 the studio calls up, and they\u2019re like, \u2018Hey, we got a movie for you, we\u2019re going to send it to you.\u2019 And they send it to you, and it\u2019s \u2018GI Joe.\u2019\u201d Tatum said the script was bad, but he was told he\u2019d be sued if he refused to do it. He complied and even returned for the sequel, though he asked that his character be killed in the first 10 minutes.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Matthew Goode<\/a> knew<\/a> that \u201cLeap Year\u201d would be a mess from the start. \u201cI just know that there are a lot of people who will say it is the worst film of 2010,\u201d he said, revealing he mainly took it so he \u201ccould come home at the weekends.\u201d (The shoot was in Dublin, and Goode was then living in England with his girlfriend and newborn.) \u201cIt wasn\u2019t because of the script, trust me. I was told it was going to be like \u2018The Quiet Man\u2019 with a Vaughan Williams soundtrack, but in the end, it turned out to have pop music all over it. A bit like \u2018Chasing Liberty\u2019 again. Do I feel I let myself down? No. Was it a bad job? Yes, it was. But, you know, I had a nice time, and I got paid.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

4. Hugh Grant<\/a> called<\/a> \u201cDid You Hear About the Morgans?\u201d a<\/em> \u201cmassive turkey\u201d and<\/a> a \u201ctotal failure,\u201d and blamed it for his career cooling afterward. He called his offers drying up<\/a> \u201cslightly embarrassing\u201d and said he was sensitive at the time about people not liking the film. He also regretted how many rom-coms he made at the time; though some have stood the test of time (particularly \u201cMusic and Lyrics\u201d), he felt, \u201cI should\u2019ve made interesting decisions and done different stuff. Ben Affleck openly mocked<\/a> \u201cArmageddon\u201d throughout the DVD\u2019s commentary, dissecting the main plotline of the film. \u201cI asked Michael why it was easier to train oil drillers [to become astronauts] than astronauts to become oil drillers, and he told me to shut the fuck up, so that was the end of that talk,\u201d he says at one point. He also questions<\/a>, \u201cIn a week, we\u2019re going to learn how to be astronauts?\u201d, calling it a \u201clogic stretch\u201d that astronauts couldn\u2019t learn to drill. \u201cThey don\u2019t know jack about drilling? He\u2019s also called the film \u201cthe weirdest, kind of wonderful, strange, otherworldly movie experience,\u201d so it certainly doesn\u2019t seem he had a bad time filming it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

6. \u201cArmageddon\u201d isn\u2019t the only film of Ben Affleck\u2019s career that he has panned. He later said<\/a> his movie \u201cDaredevil\u201d \u201cdidn\u2019t work at all.\u201d He continued, \u201cIf I wanted to go viral, I would be less polite. That was before people realized you could make these movies and make them well. Robert Downey Jr. called<\/a> \u201cDolittle\u201d a \u201ctwo-and-a-half-year wound of squandered opportunity.\u201d Finally done with the MCU (well, at the time), Downey Jr. thought the film could be \u201canother big, fun, well-executed potential franchise,\u201d though he \u201chad some reservations.\u201d Still, he and his team got overexcited as he was \u201cbulletproof\u201d and a genre movie \u201cguru,\u201d losing sight of the importance of execution. Ultimately, he said, his wife, Susan Downey, who produced the film, had to roll \u201cher sleeves up to her armpits to make it even serviceable enough to bring to market\u201d \u2014 and the two had to change their business advisors.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

8. Rooney Mara almost quit acting after starring in the \u201cNightmare on Elm Street\u201d reboot. She called<\/a> it \u201cnot a good experience\u201d \u2014 though she declined to go much farther. \u201cI have to be careful with what I say and how I talk about it. It wasn\u2019t the best experience making it, and I kind of got to this place, that I still live in, that I don\u2019t want to act unless I\u2019m doing stuff that I feel like I have to do. So after making that film, I kind of decided, \u2018Ok, I\u2019m just not going to act anymore unless it\u2019s something that I feel that way about.\u2019\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

In another interview, she gave<\/a> a few more details. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to act anymore. I was like, this isn\u2019t what I signed up for. If this is what my opportunities are going to be like, then I\u2019m not that interested in acting. So I was very discouraged and disheartened,\u201d she said. She actually said she hadn\u2019t wanted the role in the first place. \u201cYou kind of learn to self-sabotage with things you don\u2019t want to get. Sometimes you don\u2019t want to get something, but you do a really good job, and you get it anyway. That was kind of [what happened with] \u2018A Nightmare on Elm Street\u2019 \u2014 I didn\u2019t really even want it. 9. At a press conference for \u201cThe Fighter,\u201d<\/em> Mark Wahlberg acknowledged<\/a> a \u201cbad movie that [he] did,\u201d saying that Amy Adams dodged a bullet by not costarring in the film. While he initially did not want to reveal the film, he quickly changed his mind. \u201cAlright. \u2019The Happening.\u2032<\/em> Fuck it,\u201d Wahlberg said, naming the sci-fi flop in which his performance was widely panned. \u201cIt is what it is. Fucking trees, man. The plants. Fuck it. You can\u2019t blame me for not wanting to try to play a science teacher. At least I wasn\u2019t playing a cop or a crook.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Nobody seemed to hate \u201cThe Silver Chalice\u201d more than its star, Paul Newman, who actually<\/a> took out a newspaper ad to apologize for the film when it was set to air on TV, trying to get people not to tune in (this backfired). He called his debut film \u201cthe worst movie produced in the fifties.\u201d In his autobiography, he recalled<\/a> being aghast at seeing the \u201cgod-awful\u201d finished product, certain it would destroy his career. \u201cThat I survived that picture is a testament to something,\u201d he said in a 1994 interview.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

11. In another older example, Sean Connery famously hated<\/a> playing James Bond, the role he is best known for, especially as the films went on. He said the movies \u201cdon\u2019t tax one as an actor. All one really needs is the constitution of a rugby player to get through 18 weeks of swimming, slugging, and necking.\u201d He also stated post-\u201cThunderball,\u201d<\/em> his fourth Bond film, \u201cWhat is needed now is a change of course, more attention to character and better dialogue.\u201d The part itself, he described as \u201ca cross, a privilege, a joke, a challenge. 12. Ralph Fiennes called \u201cThe Avengers\u201d \u201cthe turkey of all turkeys,\u201d telling<\/a> Vanity Fair, \u201cThey didn\u2019t even have a premiere. They didn\u2019t even have screenings. They just said, \u2018Put it out and then shut your eyes.\u2018\u201d It was so bad he actually thought it would end his career, though he hadn\u2019t realized it was bad while making it. \u201cI loved going to work on \u2018The Avengers,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/a> \u201cYou don\u2019t go to work thinking you\u2019re going to make a bad film. Will Smith essentially revealed he only did \u201cWild Wild West\u201d to make money at the box office, and kind of \u201ctricked\u201d people into seeing it. \u201cI had so much success that I started to taste global blood, and my focus shifted from my artistry to winning,\u201d Smith said<\/a>. \u201cI wanted to win and be the biggest movie star, and what happened was there was a lag \u2014 around \u2018Wild Wild West\u2019 time \u2014 I found myself promoting something because I wanted to win versus promoting something because I believed in it.\u201d Back then, he said, it was easy to market a \u201ccrap movie\u201d to fans through \u201ca trailer with a lot of explosions.\u201d But modern audiences are different. \u201cI have to be in tune with [the fans\u2019] needs and not trick them into going to see \u2018Wild Wild West.\u2019\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

But the first time where it didn\u2019t work the way that I wanted was \u2018Wild Wild West.\u2019 I was coming off of \u2018Men in Black,\u2019 and everything was like, \u2018Oh, we can\u2019t lose,\u2019 you know?\u201d Of course, the film was a major loss. \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh! He also called<\/a> \u201cAfter Earth\u201d \u201cthe most painful failure of my career\u201d \u2014 especially because he dragged his son Jaden into it. \u201d\u2018Wild Wild West\u2019 was less painful than \u2018After Earth\u2019 because my son was involved in \u2019After Earth,\u2032<\/em> and I led him into it. That was excruciating,\u201d Smith told Variety, stating that it led to him realizing that his MO in life \u2014 to be number one \u2014 was \u201cnot a good source of creation.\u201d He recalled being \u201cdevastated\u201d about the reviews, though learning his father had cancer shortly after quickly eclipsed his feelings on the film.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

But it was made into camp,\u201d she said of the film, stating also that it \u201cwas never modulated director-ally\u201d and became \u201ckind of a Kabuki performance.\u201d Dunaway also came to view the film, which was based on Crawford\u2019s daughter\u2019s memoir, as exploitative, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate they feel they had [to] make this kind of movie.\u201d She suggested it lacked nuance. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t brought into a vision that said, \u2018Look, let\u2019s really<\/em> talk about who these two people were.\u2019 Only God may ever know what passed between [Crawford and her daughter].\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Charles Heston found<\/a> sequels \u201ctacky\u201d and did NOT want to appear in \u201cBeneath the Planet of the Apes.\u201d However, he was ultimately convinced by producer Richard Zanuck, who got him to take a gamble. Still, Heston said he\u2019d only do it if his character \u2014 along with everyone else on the planet \u2014 were killed in an atomic bomb blast. He only appeared briefly at the start and end of the film, but he quickly became unhappy even with this, calling it \u201cmy promised chore\u201d that he was \u201cbeginning to regret.\u201d He also called it the first film \u201cI\u2019ve ever done in my life for which I have no enthusiasm.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

They\u2019re an escape.\u201d When asked if he had a \u201cone for them, one for me\u201d mentality, Elordi said, \u201cMy \u2018one for them,\u2019 I\u2019ve done it. That one\u2019s a trap as well. Because it can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas, and you\u2019re dead inside. So it\u2019s a fine dance.\u201d<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

We tried to get bigger. Mike,\u201d he continued, referencing the film\u2019s director, Michael Bay, \u201cwent so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie.
