CLEVELAND \u2014\u00a0The Asian population in Ohio has more than doubled since 2000, and it\u2019s still only a fraction \u2014 3% \u2014 but there\u2019s no shortage for the love of the food and culture.<\/p>\n

    The 17th<\/sup> annual Cleveland Asian Festival will allow people to experience both. Food from a variety of regions will be available.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWe wanted to showcase foods that people haven\u2019t tried before,\u201d said co-founder Lisa Wong.<\/p>\n

    Wong said the Asian community is very diverse in Cleveland. She said the festivals allow Asians to celebrate their own culture and to celebrate it with their friends and community.<\/p>\n

    The festival celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.<\/p>\n

    There will be over 30 performances throughout the weekend representing numerous cultures including Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.<\/p>\n

    There will be a K-Pop dancing festival that co-founder Johnny Wu said is not to be missed. People will get a chance to learn to dance and win prizes.<\/p>\n

    People will also get to learn about traditional clothing like seventh-century armor from the Tang Dynasty.<\/p>\n

    There also will be an egg roll speed-eating competition.<\/p>\n

    More than 130 vendors will be in attendance. People are invited to come in cosplay of their favorite Asian characters<\/p>\n

    The festival is free and will be held in Asiatown just east of downtown Cleveland.<\/p>\n

    The event runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, but make sure to leave your pets at home as no pets will be allowed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
