Disco meets country thanks to Miranda Lambert<\/strong><\/a>. Today, she released a new single called \u201cCrisco,\u201d very much pulls from both disco and country and makes for a very nostalgic song unlike anything else in her catalog.<\/p>\n Miranda recently\u00a0announced that she will release future music with MCA<\/a><\/strong>, marking a new chapter in her decorated recording career. Miranda was previously with Republic for a couple of years, and MCA has an impressive roster of country artists, so it\u2019s clear she\u2019s ready to get back to a Nashville-based label and continue her commitment to the creative community and roots that have long shaped her artistry.<\/p>\n Miranda is now be label mates with George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Reba McEntire, and she will fit right in and certainly be an asset to an already-impressive group of artists.<\/p>\n Miranda most recently put out her most recent album\u00a0Postcards from Texas<\/em>\u00a0in 2024, and she\u2019s been working with Ella Langley to write and produce her monster new album Dandelion, where she\u2019s also featured on a duet called\u00a0\u201cButterfly Season,\u201d<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in addition to appearing on Kacey Musgraves\u2019 highly-anticipated album for a duet called\u00a0\u201cHorses and Divorces,\u201d<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0which I have not stopped listening to.<\/p>\n This is her first release with MCA, and she wrote \u201cCrisco\u201d with Aaron Raitiere, Jesse Frasure and Chill Fellacheck. Miranda says she included a lot of country elements she\u2019s never \u201cput on tape before,\u201d and it\u2019s meant to be a fun, and maybe a little nostalgic, song that fans can simply enjoy for what it is without overthinking anything:<\/p>\n \u201cIt has so many elements of the country music that I love that I\u2019ve never put on tape. There\u2019s a looseness to it, a joy. It feels like dancing in your kitchen with the person you love, spinning old records, not overthinking a thing.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n She adds that it was a unique challenge to make a song that was \u201cfamiliar\u201d and \u201cFresh\u201d at the same time, and of course, she was deeply inspired by the likes of\u00a0 Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers and that 70s and 80s time when those artists in particular were fusing in a lot of disco:<\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted something that feels familiar but also fresh, which is really hard to do. We leaned into all the things I grew up loving about country music \u2013 Glen Campbell, Kenny and Dolly; very \u201970s and \u201980s. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s a fun mix of all these sides of country music that I\u2019ve never fully explored before, even down to using strings in a bigger way. I almost can\u2019t believe I\u2019ve made this many records without really going there, but it was magical to hear how much strings can transform a song.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n I love 70s and 80s-era music of any kind, and really any genre, so I love that she\u2019s playing with that here. From iconic songs like \u201cSouthern Nights\u201d and of course \u201cIslands in the Stream,\u201d it\u2019s nothing new for disco to be part of country. I mean, who could forget the whole Urban Cowboy<\/em> scene? But I\u2019m here for it because Miranda is the kind of artist who can do it and do it well. It won\u2019t be for everybody, but I can appreciate her trying something new and going in a different direction with this new chapter.<\/p>\n The chorus pretty much sums it up:<\/p>\n \u201cBaby, we\u2019ve been cooking with Crisco<\/em> Miranda teamed up with Chris Stapleton for a very disco-inspired duet called \u201cA Song To Sing\u201d last year, which seems to have been a hint about what she had up her sleeve and I have a feeling there might be more where this came from.<\/p>\n It is the most heart-wrenching, poetic song she\u2019s ever put out? No, but it\u2019s fun, and catchy, and obviously groovy because disco is just fun and I really enjoy it from that standpoint.<\/p>\n They actually filmed the \u201cCrisco\u201d video on Miranda\u2019s birthday and she got a bedazzled\u00a0Crisco cake which I am very much here for:<\/p>\n It\u2019s a new era of Miranda Lambert, and she\u2019s ready to go full-disco with a whole lot of twang\u2026 check it out:<\/p>\n \u201cCrisco\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
