At the Netflix<\/a> Is A Joke festival last week, Jerry Seinfeld quipped that NBC recreated his eponymous TV series with \u201cgood-looking people\u201d to launch the uber-popular \u201990s sitcom \u201cFriends<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cSeinfeld\u201d premiered on NBC in 1989; \u201cFriends\u201d premiered in 1994 on the same network. Both series follow single friends living in New York City.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think NBC was watching my show and went, \u2018Hey, this is working pretty well,\u2019\u201d Seinfeld said, according to Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201d\u2018Why don\u2019t we try the same thing with good-looking people?\u2019 And that was a pretty good idea. I think that kind of worked.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Seinfeld, who was talking to \u201cSeinfeld\u201d co-creator Larry David and \u201cRushmore Podcast\u201d host Ben Persky, also revealed his top episodes of the show: \u201cThe Contest,\u201d \u201cThe Soup Nazi,\u201d \u201cThe Merv Griffin Show\u201d and \u201cThe Marine Biologist.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time \u201cFriends\u201d and \u201cSeinfeld\u201d have made headlines together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a 2022 interview<\/a> with The Daily Beast, \u201cFriends\u201d star Lisa Kudrow credited \u201cSeinfeld\u201d for helping the show reach bigger audiences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe first season, our ratings were just fine,\u201d Kudrow said, explaining that it wasn\u2019t until \u201cwhen we were in reruns after \u2018Seinfeld,\u2019 where \u2018Seinfeld\u2019 was our lead-in, where we exploded.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, \u2018Hi,\u2019 and he said, \u2018You\u2019re welcome,\u2019\u201d Kudrow continued. \u201cI said, \u2018Why, thank you\u2026 What?\u2019\u201d And he said, \u2018You\u2019re on after us in the summer, and you\u2019re welcome.\u2019 And I said, \u2018That\u2019s exactly right. Thank you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
