Emmy-winner Alec Baldwin weighed in on MAGA\u2019s anti \u201cwoke\u201d campaign against Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey<\/i>, which has found its central voice in centibillionaire X owner Elon Musk.<\/p>\n
Musk has led a conservative onslaught<\/a> against the Oscar-winning director, targeting his supposedly \u201cracist\u201d casting of Lupita Nyong\u2019o, who he claims shouldn\u2019t play \u201cthe most beautiful woman in the world,\u201d Helen of Troy, as depicted in the Greek epic.<\/p>\n Baldwin posted a photo of Nyong’o to Instagram, backing the Oscar-winning actress. \/ Instagram\/screengrab<\/p>\n Baldwin, 68, joined the discourse to slam Elon on Friday, writing in a post to Instagram<\/a>, \u201cDear Elon\u2026 but she IS the most beautiful woman in the world\u2026Alec.\u201d Baldwin\u2019s post included a photo of Nyong\u2019o, 43. His wife, Hilaria, seemed to agree with the sentiment, commenting with fire and heart emojis.<\/p>\n Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin attend SNL50: The Anniversary Special \/ Taylor Hill \/ Taylor Hill\/FilmMagic<\/p>\n The actor\u2019s comments come after Musk was called out on The View<\/i><\/a> in January for remarks about the casting, which at the time was only a rumor. \u201cAnyone can portray a fictional character,\u201d co-host Sunny Hostin said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to be a white person that plays this part.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cI think we have to call a thing a thing when we\u2019re talking about someone like Elon Musk\u2026 We know what this is. He is a white supremacist. In my view, he is a racist.\u201d<\/p>\n Though Nyong\u2019o did not appear in either of the film\u2019s two trailers, Nolan, 55, confirmed the casting in an interview with Time magazine<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Nyong\u2019o, who will also play Helen\u2019s sister Clytemnestra, was named People magazine\u2019s \u201cMost Beautiful Woman<\/a>\u201d in 2014 following her triumphant Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for 12 Years a Slave<\/i>\u2014but according to Musk and MAGA, casting the Kenyan actress is \u201chistorically inaccurate.\u201d<\/p>\n There is no evidence that any of The Odyssey<\/i>\u2019s characters, as described in the original epic written by Homer, actually existed.<\/p>\n Christopher Nolan’s <\/p>\n Still, also peeved about the rumored casting of trans actor Elliot Page as the epic\u2019s Achilles, Musk, 54, has continued targeting the film, picking up where he left off in January<\/a>, when Nyong\u2019o\u2019s casting was still unconfirmed.<\/p>\n He\u2019s promoted more than two dozen X posts criticizing the film, including at least 15 on Friday alone. He\u2019s been accused of altering the X algorithm<\/a> to boost his posts.<\/p>\n After more of MAGA<\/a> joined his cause, Musk set his sights on a new target: former Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences President David Rubin. Rubin, who was president from 2019\u20132022, oversaw the implementation of the Academy Awards\u2019 Representation and Inclusion Standards<\/a>, which, if not met, can deem a film ineligible for Best Picture.<\/p>\n \u201cF— YOU, Rubin, you f—ing douchbag![sic]\u201d Musk wrote in a post<\/a> on Friday. \u201cGive Rubin a loud boo next time you see him.\u201d<\/p>\n After tearing down <\/p>\n Musk and those he reposts blame the Nyong\u2019o\u2019s casting on Nolan\u2019s compliance with the Academy\u2019s \u201cDEI lies.\u201d<\/p>\n Just two years ago, however, Nolan won his first two Oscars for Oppenheimer<\/i>, which featured an entirely white cast. (The film met the Academy\u2019s requirements through its production staff<\/a>).<\/p>\n Musk is spearheading a MAGA tirade against Christopher Nolan’s <\/p>\n The MAGA billionaire\u2019s online fixation was further amplified on Thursday by Newsmax\u2019s Rob Finnerty, who called Nyong\u2019o and Page\u2019s casting<\/a>s a \u201crewriting of history,\u201d in a lengthy tirade against the film\u2019s supposed inaccuracies.<\/p>\n Finnerty ranted about the casting of the fictional characters on Thursday. \/ Finnerty\/NewsMax\/YouTube<\/p>\n \u201cThe role of Achilles will reportedly be played by Elliot Page. Looks like a guy\u2014formerly Ellen Page, meaning the most famous warrior in history, not just Greek history\u2014all of history\u2014Achilles is about to be played by a transgender woman in a brand new movie,” he said, shifting his focus next to Nyong\u2019o.<\/p>\n \u201cA woman who was definitely white is going to be played by Lupita Nyong\u2019o,\u201d he continued. \u201cHelen of Troy was not Black. That\u2019s not me being mean. That\u2019s me telling the truth. The real actual truth, which we tend to do a lot of here, and Achilles was not a five-foot-one woman, but to the Left, this is all normal.\u201d<\/p>\n Nolan defended his castings\u2014which also include Oscar winners Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron, as well as Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson\u2014in the Time interview, saying, \u201cHopefully they\u2019ll enjoy the film, even if they don\u2019t agree with everything.\u201d<\/p>\n Musk\u2019s anti-Odyssey<\/i> push may fall on deaf ears.
