(Photo by JB Lacroix\/FilmMagic)<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Festival artistic director Thierry Fr\u00e9maux brought out the surprise award moments before the screening.<\/p>\n<p>A visibly moved Travolta clutched his chest as Fr\u00e9maux presented the trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You said this would be a special night, but I didn\u2019t know it would mean this,&#8221; he told him, later exclaiming, &#8220;This is beyond the Oscar!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Travolta wrote, directed, and co\u2011produced\u00a0&#8220;Propeller One\u2011Way Night Coach,&#8221; based on his own 1997 children\u2019s novel.<\/p>\n<p>Cannes has a history of surprising guests with honorary Palmes.
