Grease<\/em> costars John Travolta<\/strong><\/a> and Olivia Newton-John<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who first met on the set of the 1978 hit and remained friends until the latter died in 2022 \u2014 almost had an off-screen romance, according to a friend.<\/p>\n For his new Olivia Newton-John biography, A Little More Love<\/em>, author Matthew Hild <\/strong>dug through old interviews and spoke to friends and colleagues who were once close to the actress to know what was actually going on behind the scenes.<\/p>\n Speaking of the \u201crumored\u201d almost-romance, Hild recently told People<\/em><\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t quite have the smoking gun, but I think the preponderance of evidence is pretty darn suggestive.\u201d<\/p>\n John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John met on the set of \u2018Grease.\u2019 Paramount Pictures\/YouTube<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n In his book, Hild writes, \u201cIn 2018, Didi Conn<\/strong><\/a>, who played Frenchy in Grease, told journalist Stephanie Nolasco<\/strong> that she thought that Travolta had been genuinely attracted to Olivia and that the chemistry between the two in the movie was real.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRecalling an alternate ending that was filmed for the movie, when Danny and Sandy engaged in a \u2018juicy\u2019 kiss, Conn said, \u2018They weren\u2019t acting at that moment\u2026 it was real, it really was,\u2019\u201d the book reads.<\/p>\n Hild mentions another witness, whose name remains undisclosed, to the young actors\u2019 near-romance, writing, \u201cMore than 20 years after Grease <\/em>was filmed, a musician who had been married to a Scientologist joined Olivia\u2019s band and became friends with her. He says that Olivia and Travolta \u2018were very, very close. Almost that close.’\u201d<\/p>\n John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John remained friends until the latter\u2019s death in 2022. She apparently asked the singer a \u201cpersonal question\u201d because his wife was a Scientologist as well.<\/p>\n The question was, as Hild writes: \u201cIf I had married John, would he have expected me to become a Scientologist?\u201d<\/p>\n The answer Newton-John\u2019s bandmate had was: \u201cIt would not have been mandatory, but it would have been encouraged, put it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n The duo worked on multiple projects over the years, including the 1983 hit Two of a Kind.<\/em> Travolta paid his tribute to Newton-John when she died from b****** cancer at the age of 73, writing on Instagram<\/a>, \u201cMy dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n In her memoir, Olivia Newton-John admitted that she and John Travolta \u2018really liked each other.\u2019 MEGA<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n \u201cI love you so much. We will see you down the road, and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n Newton-John herself had written about the intense attraction she felt for Travolta, and vice versa, in her 2019 memoir, Don\u2019t Stop Believin<\/em>\u2018.<\/p>\n \u201cWe really liked each other and there was an attraction, but we would never date because we were both involved with other people at the time and both of us have a loyalty streak that runs deep,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n She also wrote about the two wanting to \u201ccross the line,\u201d noting, \u201cIt almost happened between us a few times, but it didn\u2019t.
