{"id":2420905,"date":"2026-05-17T21:57:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T21:57:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2420905"},"modified":"2026-05-17T21:57:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T21:57:01","slug":"how-the-old-bully-video-game-helped-inspire-blossoms-new-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/how-the-old-bully-video-game-helped-inspire-blossoms-new-music\/","title":{"rendered":"How the old Bully video game helped inspire Blossoms&#8217; new music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"category\">\n            Audio          <\/p>\n<p class=\"excerpt\">\n                EXCLUSIVE: Josh Dewhurst has excellent taste in video games.              <\/p>\n<p>                  <\/p>\n<p><strong>More specifically, their soundtracks, as in a recent chat with the Blossoms boys, we found out that their upcoming album was at least partly influenced by a beloved PlayStation 2 classic from 2006.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is just more proof that you really can find inspiration in just about anything.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, even if only in part, an old video game that many of you may have played back in the day is somehow connected to the latest and technically still yet to be announced release.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve heard of groups such as The 1975 trying to make an album that sounds \u201cas if John Hughes had directed a movie about our lives\u201d, and <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/themanc.com\/tag\/red-rum-club\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Red Rum Club<\/a><\/strong> leaning further into the growing Western aesthetic with almost every outing, but we never thought we\u2019d hear of a record born out of a love for <em>Bully<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DYcT7HkhZsB\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>The lads actually touched on that whole \u2018still TBC\u2019 when we spoke to them at their studio in Stockport, joking not just about divorce but how they\u2019re baffled by the whole \u2018are they working on new music?\u2019 speculation in the media. \u201cWell, yeah, we\u2019re a band \u2013 that\u2019s what we do for a living\u201d, as they put it.<\/p>\n<p>But back to the point at hand: lead guitarist Dewhurt\u2019s affection for <em>Bully<\/em>, a cult favourite PS2 title released by Rockstar Games \u2013 the same people behind <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em> (<em>GTA<\/em>) and <em>Red Dead Redemption<\/em> \u2013 and the score behind it, essentially served as a seed for the feel of their newest work.<\/p>\n<p>As he explained above, before being expanded on by frontman and primary lyricist Tom Odgen, they were fortunate enough to be in possession of the details for one half of a duo they both admire: <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.younggunsilverfox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Young Gun Silver Fox<\/a><\/strong>, a.k.a. British artist Andy Platts and US multi-talented instrumentalist, Shawn Lee.<\/p>\n<p>Lee also just so happens to be the composer of the original <em>Bully<\/em> video game soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, this all came about because Josh contacted him over email simply to praise the game\u2019s music (sure, when he was a teenager, we promise), and only took them until the last year or so to put two and two together. Small world, eh?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bully Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/88KNf0MtU14?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Oh, the nostalgia.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It has since occurred to us that we\u2019ve come across him before, too.<\/p>\n<p>For us, it was when playing the first <em>Tales From The Borderlands<\/em> (a spin-off of the popular action role-playing looter-shooter series that has since been turned into a Hollywood movie), which features his song \u2018Kiss The Sky\u2019 and ALSO enjoyed in our late teens.<\/p>\n<p>It still continues to baffle us how things can come full circle like this.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, his music appears in various pieces of pop culture, and with Tom professing his love for the funky, bass-forward 80s vibes of Lee and his partner Platts\u2019 stuff, he was then roped in as part of the production team on the <em>hypothetical<\/em> <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/themanc.com\/tag\/blossoms\/\">Blossoms<\/a><\/strong> LP number six. Not that we know anything about that\u2026<\/p>\n<p>What has now come out of all this is the previously alluded to lead single entitled \u2018Joke About Divorce\u2019, the music video for which dropped last month.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u2018Joke About Divorce\u2019 our new single is out now! --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 512\/512;\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Radio Addicts<\/figcaption><\/figure><figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-caption wp-element-caption\">Credit: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialAfterAllFestival\/\"><strong>After All Festival<\/strong><\/a> (supplied)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the festival continues to grow in size and popularity, they have obviously had to scale things up even further this year.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, beloved live music spot and Manc institution, <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/themanc.com\/tag\/band-on-the-wall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Band on the Wall<\/a><\/strong>, is among the chosen arts spaces for this latest iteration.<\/p>\n<p>BoW will be offering up their 500-capacity main room to the organisers for the very first time, serving as the de facto main stage of After All Fest 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Joining them will be the Rose and Monkey next door, as well as cult favourite pub, Gullivers on Oldham Street, who have a long history of supporting local musicians and the arts in general.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, other acts that we\u2019re looking forward to catching include <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/themanc.com\/audio\/five-new-greater-manchester-bands-and-artists-to-listening-to-december-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Concrete Club, who featured in our Greater Manchester Artists of the Month<\/a><\/strong> round-up a couple of years back, as well as The Information Highway. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 2426\/1365;\"\/><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Katseye have announced a major arena world tour for this year \u2013 and the global girl group are coming to Manchester for the first time. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pop superstars will be performing at the <strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/themanc.com\/tag\/co-op-live\">Co-op Live<\/a><\/strong> as part of their WILDWORLD TOUR, which is taking them right across the UK, Europe and North America. <\/p>\n<p>Katseye formed through The Debut: Dream Academy, which narrowed 120,000 applicants down to just six talented singers and dancers \u2013 though the group will be touring as a five-piece this time (Manon Bannerman has taken a hiatus from the band).<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles-based global girl group, formed by HYBE and Geffen Records, merges K-pop dance training with Western pop sounds, with members hailing from across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The group is currently made up of Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung.<\/p>\n<p>Katseye have not yet released a full studio album but have achieved major commercial success with songs like Gabriella, Pinky Up, Gnarly, and Internet Girl. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYR5x3jmgoW\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF;
