Adam Driver just responded for the first time to Lena Dunham\u2019s claims in her new memoir that he was verbally aggressive on the set of \u201cGirls.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI have no comment on any of that,\u201d Driver said Sunday at Cannes Film Festival<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m saving it all for my book.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Driver was at the international film festival to premier his new movie \u201cPaper Tiger.\u201d During the news conference to promote the crime drama<\/a>, Driver was briefly asked about Dunham\u2019s portrayal of him in her book, specifically if he has changed his approach to acting since his time on \u201cGirls.\u201d His short, sarcastic answer garnered laughs from his co-stars and the audience. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In April, Dunham\u2019s released her newest memoir \u201cFamesick,\u201d and in it, she got candid about her relationship with Driver, whom she starred opposite of in \u201cGirls.\u201d She wrote that Driver was \u201cshort-tempered and verbally aggressive, condescending and physically imposing,\u201d adding that the two haven\u2019t spoken since the show ended. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While filming one of their sex scenes early on in the series, Dunham wrote that Driver<\/a> \u201churled\u201d her \u201cthis way and that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cStunned, I couldn\u2019t speak for a moment, unsure of what had happened \u2014 had I lost directorial authority, allowed the scene to go off the rails, not given proper instructions? Would I be removed from my command post immediately?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t that I felt violated \u2014 and I also wouldn\u2019t know if I had, as there was little in my sexual life that I hadn\u2019t allowed to happen, and for no pay,\u201d she continued. \u201cBut I felt that something intimate, confusing and primal had played out in a scenario I was meant to control.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She also wrote that when she forgot one of her lines, Driver threw a chair at a wall and screamed at her. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019d known them only minutes before,\u201d Dunham wrote<\/a>. \u201cBut when I opened my mouth, all that came out was a stammer \u2014 until finally, Adam screamed, \u2018FUCKING SAY SOMETHING\u2019 and hurled a chair at the wall next to me. \u2018WAKE THE FUCK UP,\u2019 he told me. \u2018I\u2019M SICK OF WATCHING YOU JUST STARE.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While promoting the memoir, Dunham didn\u2019t seem to have any bad feelings toward Driver, telling People she has \u201ca lot of empathy\u201d for Driver.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFor better or worse, it was all of our first jobs,\u201d Dunham told People. \u201cI think Adam went on a very specific ride because he had the ride of the show and then also the ride of becoming a major movie star at the same time. So he was on these two tracks, and he\u2019s a very, very serious work-focused private person. So I have a lot of empathy for that. And again, the goal was never to make Adam seem like he was in any way the outlier of the show, but just to talk about how complex and confusing those first experiences of trying to be a boss were.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
