A soldier who died after falling from her horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show was named as Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, 24 \u2013 an \u201cexceptional jockey\u201d with an \u201cinfectious energy\u201d, her commanding officer said.<\/p>\n

Sullivan, part of the King\u2019s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, fell at around 7pm on Friday after exiting the arena.<\/p>\n

Despite being given immediate medical treatment she died at the scene<\/a> of serious injuries, Thames Valley police said. Police said they were treating the death as unexplained but non-suspicious.<\/p>\n

Sullivan was deployed at Queen Elizabeth\u2019s state funeral in 2022 and the coronation of Charles and Camilla the following year.<\/p>\n

Her commanding officer said in a tribute issued by the Ministry of Defence (MoD): \u201cLance Bombardier (LBdr) Ciara Sullivan, \u2018Sully\u2019 to her friends, was to all who had the privilege of serving alongside her, a bright light in any room she entered.\u201d She was praised as \u201can outstanding soldier and a role model to many she worked with.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cimmensely professional soldier\u201d was a skilled footballer and pushed herself in the gym while \u201cquietly\u201d bringing others along with her. \u201cHer patient coaching has helped many mounted gunners within the unit fulfil their potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

John Healey, the defence secretary, described Sullivan as a \u201cbrilliant young soldier who served our nation with dedication. We\u2019re all deeply shocked and saddened by her death.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson previously said the king was \u201cgreatly shocked and saddened\u201d to learn of her death and would be in touch with her family to share his condolences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile his majesty and other members of the royal family were present at the arena at the time the incident took place, they were not made aware of the severity of the situation until later.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
