Celebrating 30 years of Louise’s 1996 debut album Naked<\/a>, the shows promise to be much more than a nostalgia trip, allowing fans to see their more recent (and future \ud83d\udc40) faves live for the first time.<\/p>\n

So, what can we expect from her imminent Hoopla slot and the tour? We got Lou on the blower to find out.<\/p>\n

Hi, Lou! You\u2019re a Mighty Hoopla veteran now \u2013 you must be excited to get back on that stage?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

It’s the best!\u00a0What\u2019s\u00a0really nice\u00a0for\u00a0me this year\u00a0is\u00a0I’m back with a new album and\u00a0[producer]\u00a0Jon\u00a0Shave, who did a lot of\u00a0Confessions, has helped me pull the show together sonically. It\u2019ll have\u00a0all the new stuff,\u00a0the old stuff and some surprises. It\u2019s a whole new show done before, so there’s a lot to remember, but I’m really looking forward\u00a0to it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Your creative relationship with Jon just works, doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

I’m very lucky, because\u00a0he’s the superstar in all this, he\u2019s\u00a0created the whole feel\u00a0and \u2018newness\u2019 of it. I mean, I don’t get many breaks, put it like that. It\u2019s like\u00a0an onslaught!\u00a0The first\u00a0section goes on for about eight\u00a0or\u00a0nine minutes without a stop.\u00a0I want this to be high energy, high positivity, celebratory. I\u2019m honoured to be back there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is about the Mighty Hoopla crowd that you love so much?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

I always say,\u00a0\u201cnever underestimate a\u00a0Hoopla\u00a0audience, because they know their stuff!\u201d If you bring the goods, there\u2019s\u00a0nobody that’s got your back\u00a0and\u00a0more happy to have a good time with you\u00a0than the Hoopla\u00a0crowd.\u00a0It\u2019s the\u00a0perfect audience for me,\u00a0I\u2019d never not bring my A-game.<\/p>\n

Hoopla\u2019s known to be such an inclusive, LGBTQIA+-friendly crowd, too\u2026<\/h4>\n

They\u2019ve\u00a0been with me from day one. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think I\u00a0would\u2019ve\u00a0had a Top 10 album without them. I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0still be going back into the studio today without them! I owe them a lot, and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0super grateful. Mighty Hoopla feels like home\u00a0to me.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s always reciprocated, too. They\u2019re in it with you.<\/p>\n

And did we hear you say you’re back in the studio?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

I am!\u00a0Last time I did Hoopla\u00a0I did a news song, and this year,\u00a0when I was in the studio with Jon, he was like,\u00a0\u201cAre we going to do a new song for Hoopla?\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0really good\u00a0bop,\u00a0everyone\u2019s\u00a0going to love it. Lyrically\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0very strong, I\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0wait. Me and Jon have such a great partnership, and Miranda Cooper wrote this new one.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0very\u00a0feel\u00a0good, but also quite ballsy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t\u00a0wait to hear it! And\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0be celebrating over three decades as a solo artist with the Naked \/\/ Confessions Tour next year.\u00a0How\u2019s\u00a0it been revisiting all your classics?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

Again, like with the Hoopla set, Jon\u2019s helped pull it all together. There’s\u00a0definitely new\u00a0life in the old songs\u00a0because,\u00a0as much as I want to bring the nostalgia and the, I want them to feel current and work well next to\u00a0Confessions.\u00a0Sonically it\u00a0has to\u00a0be a\u00a0show that feels modern, and\u00a0that’s\u00a0always hard when\u00a0you’ve\u00a0got songs that are 30 years old!\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s\u00a0about reworking\u00a0and\u00a0restructuring, you\u00a0don’t\u00a0want to take away the fun and the memories, but at the same time you\u00a0don’t\u00a0want to feel dated. A lot goes into making that work.<\/p>\n

We remember you saying that the brief with Confessions was \u2018I\u2019m not a heritage act\u2019 \u2013\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0up there with the big pop girls\u2026<\/h4>\n

There’s\u00a0a time and a place for the heritage part of my career to come in, but\u00a0I’m\u00a0just not there yet.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0got more to say now than I ever have,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0keeping on going!<\/p>\n

What is it you now feel ready to say as an artist?\u00a0<\/h4>\n

I\u2019ve\u00a0got into\u00a0a place of not being scared to show any vulnerability,\u00a0that life\u00a0isn’t\u00a0always perfect. For\u00a0a long\u00a0time\u00a0I was\u00a0very nervous\u00a0about that ever being seen.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0having the ability to be\u00a0vulnerable and\u00a0honest, but from a positive.\u00a0I think I\u00a0definitely showed\u00a0that\u00a0on\u00a0Confessions, and\u00a0that’s\u00a0just going to carry on coming through on the next album.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ooh, a \u2018next album\u2019! When can we expect that? Next year?<\/h4>\n

I hope so.\u00a0That’s\u00a0my plan. I mean,\u00a0I’ve\u00a0been in the studio\u00a0and\u00a0we’ve\u00a0done a few songs.\u00a0I’ve\u00a0still got a\u00a0long\u00a0way to go, but\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0really enjoying songwriting and being on that creative level.<\/p>\n
