The celebrity mom group at the center of one of 2026\u2019s first viral scandals is finally speaking out.<\/p>\n

Ashley Tisdale French<\/b> published a bombshell essay<\/span><\/a> titled \u201cBreaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group\u201d in The Cut<\/i> in January 2026, where fans quickly speculated that Mandy Moore, Hilary Duff <\/b>and Meghan Trainor<\/b> were likely in the same mom crew.<\/p>\n

Tisdale French did not identify her former friends, though her rep stressed that Moore, Duff and Trainor were not the alleged subjects.<\/p>\n

Ashley Tisdale French\u2019s Viral Essay<\/b><\/h2>\n

In her essay for The Cut<\/i>, Tisdale French claimed that she felt \u201cfrozen out\u201d of a tight-knit mom group that she once considered a lifeline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story,\u201d French wrote. \u201cI was starting to feel frozen out of the group, noticing every way that they seemed to exclude me. \u2026 I told myself it was all in my head, and it wasn\u2019t a big deal. And yet, I could sense a growing distance between me and the other members of the group, who seemed to not even care that I wasn\u2019t around much.\u201d<\/p>\n

French eventually texted the group that \u201cthis is too high school for me\u201d and removed herself.<\/p>\n

Meghan Trainor Enters the Chat<\/b><\/h2>\n

Trainor was the first of the rumored group members<\/span><\/a> to address the chatter. Days after Tisdale French\u2019s essay was published, the \u201cAll About That Bass\u201d singer posted a TikTok captioned with three tea emojis, writing on the video, \u201cMe finding out about the apparent mom group drama,\u201d set to her own track \u201cStill Don\u2019t Care.\u201d<\/p>\n

She doubled down on January 13, 2026, with a Stranger Things<\/i> clip, captioning it, \u201cMe still trying to convince everyone I\u2019m not involved in the mom group drama. I swear I\u2019m innocent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trainor later told Us Weekly<\/i><\/span><\/a> <\/i>that she \u201cfelt bad\u201d for Tisdale French amid the fallout.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt bad that she was ever that sad, and I think it was just a lot of miscommunication and confusion. I don\u2019t know what happened, but I wish them all the best,\u201d she exclusively told Us <\/i>in an April 2026 cover story. \u201cAshley texted me like, \u2018I\u2019m sorry, your name got dragged in.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018It\u2019s all right, girl, like, the world\u2019s a silly, crazy place, and they just want something to talk about.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Duff took a more measured approach<\/span><\/a>, telling the Los Angeles Times<\/i> that her real-life mom circle bears no resemblance to the toxic dynamic French described.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe women at school are lovely and I\u2019m obsessed with all of them,\u201d Duff said in February 2026. \u201cI mean, this is not new for me. I\u2019ve had this since I was maybe 15 and starting to get followed around by [photographers]. Everything starts getting documented and everyone knows my life and all the players in it. So the stories that get news pickup \u2014 it\u2019s not what happens to a normal person who maybe became an actor as an adult. And now, it\u2019s escalated by the talking heads on TikTok that need clickbait.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mandy Moore Calls Essay \u2018Upsetting\u2019<\/b><\/h2>\n

Moore broke her silence<\/span><\/a> on Andy Cohen<\/b>\u2018s SiriusXM show Radio Andy <\/i>in May 2026, and she didn\u2019t hold back about how the essay landed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important thing in my life is being a kind person and like that legacy of kindness, and anyone even insinuating that that might not be the case, and with the company that I choose to keep is very upsetting,\u201d the former This Is Us<\/i> star told Cohen. \u201cIt\u2019s not always like the most comfortable of situations, but I think that\u2019s where I sort of differed in feeling like I wouldn\u2019t have handled the situation this way,\u201d she said, making clear she would have preferred a face-to-face conversation.<\/p>\n

Moore also pushed back on the broader narrative, adding, \u201cI think the biggest takeaway from that whole ridiculous debacle \u2026 is that I feel like it just sort of it perpetuates this silly trope that women can\u2019t be supportive of one another and that we\u2019re inherently petty and that we\u2019re inherently out to one-up each other, and I have not felt that one iota since becoming a parent.\u201d<\/p>\n
