Couture<\/em> is in theaters June 26<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAngelina Jolie<\/a>‘s first movie since Maria<\/em><\/a> is hitting theaters this summer.<\/p>\nOn Wednesday, May 20, Vertical Entertainment released the trailer for Jolie’s film Couture<\/em><\/a>. In the film, the Oscar winner portrays an Maxine, an American filmmaker whose life takes a turn when she travels to Paris during Fashion Week. Per the trailer, Maxine finds herself caught between an important project she’s working on, a romance with a Frenchman (Louis Garrel<\/a>) and a devastating breast cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n“Drawn into a love story with a familiar collaborator as her path intersects with women of different ages and cultural backgrounds \u2014 all fighting to take control of their own destinies \u2014 Maxine finds herself on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery that forces her to confront the choices shaping her life,” reads an official synopsis for the movie.<\/p>\n
Couture<\/em> comes to theaters after it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival<\/a> in September 2025. Jolie herself underwent a preventive double mastectomy<\/a> in 2013 because she carried the BRCA1 gene due to her family’s history<\/a> with the disease. Her mother Marcheline Bertrand<\/a> died of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007 at 56, and Jolie’s aunt and grandmother also died of the disease.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nCouture

In September, Jolie told Variety<\/em><\/a> that she wore one of her late mother’s necklaces to comfort herself during filming.<\/p>\n\u201cI feel like it’s such a personal film<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cIt felt so private that in my mind, it’s probably the one film that doesn’t feel like a film.\u201d During a Q&A for the movie at TIFF, Jolie grew emotional when she spoke to her mother’s experience with cancer and recalled that Bertrand once told her family, “All anybody ever asks me about is cancer<\/a>,” in response to an audience member who asked Couture<\/em>‘s cast to share a message of “hope” for those diagnosed with the disease.<\/p>\n“I would say, if you know someone who is going through something, ask them about everything else in their life as well, you know? They’re a whole person and they’re still living,” she said.<\/p>\n
