Dinner with Carol. Thank you Brian for a beautiful meal. Lotsa laughs and lotsa memories. But, somewhere along the way, Burnett and Lawrence <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/18\/entertainment\/mamas-family-star-vicki-lawrence-is-closer-than-ever-to-carol-burnett-after-falling-out\/\">had a falling out<\/a> as friends which the actress later attributed to Burnett\u2019s difficult divorce from Joe Hamilton.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fresh out of high school, Lawrence joined the series after she wrote a fan letter to Burnett.  <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>She played several characters on the show, but her most notable was Thelma \u201cMama\u201d Harper.  <span class=\"credit\">Everett Collection \/ Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During their breakup, Burnett began to separate herself from \u201cMama\u2019s Family\u201d \u2014 which Hamilton produced \u2014 and its cast as she made less appearances on the show. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe went through a horrible divorce,\u201d Lawrence told Screen Rant in 2024. \u201cSo, it was almost \u2026 for a while there, it was almost like she divorced all of us who were involved with [Hamilton] at all. I know it was tough for her. She spent a long time \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe talked to my husband one night,\u201d the actress continued. \u201cShe called \u2014 it was early in the \u2018Mama\u2019s Family\u2019 run. I was making dinner. My son answered the phone, and she said, \u2018Can I talk to your dad?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Who is it?\u2019 And my son said, \u2018It\u2019s Carol.\u2019 I said, \u2018Does she want to talk to me?\u2019 And he said, \u2018No, she wants to talk to dad.\u2019 And it kind of broke my heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut she did say to Al, my husband, \u2018I promise I\u2019ll be back. I promise.\u2019 and when she was back, she was fully back,\u201d Lawrence remembered. \u201cBut I know it was a really tough time for her.
